Question about Kenmore 2.1 cu. ft. Compact Portable Top-Load Washing Machine 4472
Model 110.44722401 Portable Washer Washer advances through wash cycle correctly but at end of spin cycle the wash cycle starts from the beginning again. It will continue cycling until start/stop is pressed. Lights on touch panel flash twice when washer is plugged in, which is apparently normal. Controls appear to be operating correctly, ie wash cycle button will cycle through heavy duty to hand wash. Water level and temperature controls operate properly. I've performed diagnostic per instructions on page 3 of tech sheet - pressing wash temp and water level simultaneously within ten seconds after plugging washer in. All components operate properly. Also tried resetting machine by unplugging for 5 seconds. Problem still exists. Lid safety switch is also functional. As a workaround, I turn the faucet off halfway through the spin cycle so the tub does not fill again if I happen to be distracted and miss turning it off when the spin cycle completes. I suspect a problem with control board but don't want to purchase one without expert advice. Please comment. Kind regards,
It is possible that presence of moisture within the START button can trigger the cycle to continue as it keep the processor to continue the wash cycle,Hence you must remove the panel and board after disconnecting the wiring harness and use a hair dryer to warm off any presence of moisture on the panel and board. Do it with time to ensure there is no moisture within the panel.
I think this must solve the issue. Repeat the work many times as sometimes moisture and dirt together might form a conductive bond to trigger as a pressed on switch. If possible open panel to clean switch pad.

It's a bad wax motor inside the door latch. The diagnostics are buggy and do not test it properly. It should measure about 1.5K ohms, and when 120 VAC is applied to it, it should extend in about a minute. Part number 12002535 is $10 to $15.

You have a problem with the motor coupling. Top-load washers use what's called a direct-drive system, meaning it does not use a belt but what's called a "motor coupling". I probably replace 5 a week because these little guys break because of 2 reasons that i've found.
1) The break mechanism is too dry and causing the basket to stop at a holt, which puts a lot of strain on the coupler.
2) They break because of over-loading. I don't think you're over-loading though because it was find for 5 straight years.
Good luck to you. The repair is kind of hard to do on your own for the first time, so I would call an authorized technician. It will run you anywhere between $90 to $120 at most.
Best of luck!

DOES IT DO THIS ON EVERY WASH OR SOMETIMES? IF SOMETIMES, CHECK LID SWITCH( THERE'S A LITTLE HOLE WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, ON THE LID SHOULD HAVE A LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES IN THAT HOLE. THE SWITCH IS UNDER, INSIDE THAT HOLE. YOU CAN GET A PEN OR KEY TO SEE IF IT'S BROKEN.)
