SOURCE: I'm trying to reset my lynksys router but can't

You will need to use the reset button to reset it to the default settings. There is a small hole located on the router that you can use a pin to insert inside to push the reset button. Once pushed it should change it back to the default user name leave blank(no entry) and password is "admin"

SOURCE: Password problem

you may have to do a hard reset of the router and start over with the install... there should be a small hole on the back or bottom of the router that will perform a hard reset of the router and it will be like taking it out of the box and then you can setup a password, etc and then set up the rest of your network.

SOURCE: Do not know username and password.

You will need to reset the router - stick a pin in the back where the reset button is and hold it in there for 10+ seconds while power is on. This will set it to the default for that model router - you can check Linksys site for the manual to get the default username and password.

Here is how to reset your Linksys wireless router to the factory default settings in order to clear any existing properties.

  • Note: All your settings will be lost including WEP encryption information, MAC Address filtering information, and any SSID information you have entered. The router user name and password will revert to the default of admin as the user name and no password.

To reset your Linksys BEFW11S4 router to the factory default settings:

  1. Hold the reset button on the back panel of the Linksys router for 30 seconds. All your settings will be lost including WEP encryption information, MAC Address filtering information, and any SSID information you have entered. The router password will revert to the default of Admin and all user name information will be removed.

I forget passward and user name user name : admin password : hsparouter but not access it give me 401 Unauthorized

The easiest way to recover entry to your router is to hard reset the router by using the tip of a pen and pushing it into the reset button on the router for at least 15 seconds. The router should then reset to defaults, which includes the user name and password.
The default user name and password should be listed somewhere on the router. If it isn't, then search online with your router's model number to find the default user name and password and default IP address. For example:
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Username: admin
password: password

Your router may be different but it should be somewhat similar to my example.

Good luck, please post back to this solution if you have any difficulties, and thanks for using FixYa.

I forgot my password and need help on how to retrieve it or change it.

There is a reset button on the back of the router; just use a paperclip to poke it. Then the default settings will be restored, and the username/password should both be admin

Had to do a reset on my wireless router and forgot the default user name and password for my router?

The default configuration for D-Link devices is access through IP address 192.168.0.1

The default user name is "Admin". The default password is blank.

Hope that's helpful.

I am trying to set up my wireless router but when i try to key in my user name;which is admin,it keeps telling me its the wrong username

Are you trying to access the router settings page.
Try admin in the user name and admin in the password.
If that is not working, the password of the router might be changed.
The default password of the router is ' admin ' nothing in the user name ( leave it blank ).
If nothing is working then you will need to reset the router.
press the reset button on the router and hold it down for 30 seconds.
Release he button. wait for 30 seconds. now unplug the power cable from the router.
Plug in the power cable. wait for 1 minute.
Now try to access the router setup page again with the admin password.
Once you reset the router , it will come back to factory default settings.
You will need to reconfigure the router.

Linksys wrt150n

username is blank and password is admin.

However I have seen some routers not follow that. Those will sometimes have a username of admin with a blank password. Try the first one first.

Will not let me into router. only have an option for password and nothing works. tried resetting to default and it still doesnt work

are you trying to access the router set up ?
First make sure that your computer will be connected to the router with the ethernet cable.
Now check the IP address and Default gateway on the computer. Default gateway will be the IP address of the router.
When you try to access the router it will always ask you for the password.
Try the default user name = admin and password = admin
or try user name = blank ( do not type anything), password = admin.
if that is not working then the password of the router must be changed.
try some different password that you use most often.
If that doesn't work then you will need to reset the router and reconfigure the router.
once you reset the router , you will loose all the settings on the router.
Reset the router for 30 seconds. unplug the power. plug it back in. wait for 1 minute and try to open the page again.
