Firmware update for LG bp125 gone bad
I ran into issues updating my BP125 to the LG_BD_7300M51.ROM firmware
with a USB drive but was able to work around them. I think they occur
because the BP125 expects the firmware to be in the upg_all subdirectory
during part of the update. To successfully update, it needs to be in
upg_all on the USB drive.
If you update with LG_BD_7300M51.ROM firmware file in the root
directory, the Bluray drive won't complete booting but a workaround can
restore the Bluray drive.
Here are the steps I took:
First, I tried to update with the LG_BD_7300M51.ROM file in the
root directory on a USB drive. The update found the firmware, started
the update, then powered off. I powered the Bluray player back on, and
it said the update had failed and gave me an option to update using USB
or Network. Neither worked with the LG_BD_7300M51.ROM file.
Second, I downloaded the BP120 LG_BD_7200M51.ROM firmware file,
renamed it to LG_BD_7300M51.ROM, and put it in the root directory. The
Bluray player found the firmware file, and I updated to it. That put the
BP120 firmware on the BP125.
To update to the BP125 firmware, I renamed the LG_BD_7300M51.ROM
file to LG_BD_7200M51.ROM and put it in the upg_all directory on the
USB drive. The Bluray player then saw the update. I applied it
successfully to get to the latest BP125 firmware.
