Can you try to see if this TEST will find your webcam it works the video only if you have more that one VIDEO IN (for example a tuner card) you will need to select your webcam from a drop down menu.

If this will not find your webcam then its either a driver issue or it has failed on you. Sorry for the bad news if video test can find it !

Logitech quick cam communicate stx on Vista - microphone not working

Why isn't the microphone on my camera working?
trnsp.gif Answer The microphone may not work because of a hardware or configuration problem. To determine if it's a hardware problem, test the microphone in Sound Recorder.

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
The microphone may also be defective. To test this, try the camera on another USB enabled system.
If you can record sound in Sound Recorder, but not in the QuickCam application, try setting the Logitech Microphone as the Preferred device in Audio Properties.

Mic cuts off

I had the same problem and just figured out how to stop it.

The problem is that Skype is taking over the audio controls and turning it down every time it thinks it's even a smidgen too loud. Here's how to fix that.

Go to Tools---> Options ----> Audio settings.

Make sure the microphone bar is moving at least once in a while (so you know the right mic is selected).

Then, uncheck the box "Let Skype set my audio settings for me."

The slider will become a blue dot and will continue to slide by itself. Move it it to a reasonable area (preferably to the left, but not all the way to the left), and try not to make sound so as to keep it from moving.

Hit save.

The blue dot should remain fixed and Skype should stop cutting it off.
