Your computer mouse has preferences to make it easier to use. You can change the style and of the pointer, and you can change the sensitivity, which controls how easy or difficult it is to scroll across the screen. Speeding up the mouse sensitivity can allow you to move your cursor across the computer screen faster, while slowing it down can give you better control but you may have to move the mouse a greater distance to get your cursor to where you want it.

Click the Windows "Start" menu and type "mouse" into the Search field. Click on the "Change Mouse Settings" link in the search results. Click on the "Pointer Options" tab. Move the Motion slider bar to the right for a faster speed and to the left for a slower speed. Click "Apply" to apply the settings. Move your mouse to see if those are the settings you would like. If not, adjust the slider bar again. When you find the right setting for you, click "OK" to save the settings and close the window.

Cursor jumps around

Depending on the sensitivity and settings of the touchpad, it may register undesired motions as mouse controls, causing the cursor to jump erratically. The software drivers that includes with its systems have sensitivity options that help alleviate this problem and ensure that only deliberate touchpad motions and taps cause the cursor to move.

Click on the Start menu and open the Control Panel. Choose an "Icon View" option from the "View by" dropdown menu, then click the "Mouse" icon. Navigate to the "Device Settings" tab and click on the Synaptics device in the list. If you have installed and use custom software other than a Synaptics application for controlling the touchpad, select it instead. Click the "Settings" button. Click the "+" symbol to expand the "Pointing" section in the left frame, and then the "Sensitivity" section. Click on "PalmCheck." If you have replaced the Synaptics drivers, the menu may use a different set of options. Click and drag the bar to the right, closer to the "Maximum" setting. An increased PalmCheck setting will help decrease cursor jumping due to accidental palm activations, a common occurrence when typing. Click on "Touch Sensitivity." Click and drag the bar to the right, closer to the "Heavy Touch" end. This will ensure light brushes by fingers or accidental activations by other objects will not cause the cursor to jump. Click "Apply" to test the settings, and "OK" when satisfied to save the changes and close the window.

Software Spotlight: MagicPrefs

36eb92a.jpg

When released in late 2009, Apple’s new Magic Mouse had incredible potential and clearly innovated the mouse, putting the first ever touch sensitive surface into the face of the mouse. The new mouse adds a few nifty features like scrolling with a flick of a finger but lacks features from the Mighty Mouse. For example, launching applications like Exposé right from a button on the mouse. The free OS X program called MagicPrefs gives the Magic Mouse limitless user-customized controls to everyday applications by a swipe of a finger. The software enables clicks, taps, swipes, and drag and pinch finger gestures to perform handy operations. MagicPrefs can open any applications, search with Spotlight, hide other programs, and even right-click for those PC users. MagicPrefs is a great little piece of software to help get the most out of the Magic Mouse. MagicPrefs can be downloaded here and is well worth the time to download and install.

Hello,

Logitech provides an excellent program called "Setpoint" which should have been included with your cordless mouse on a CD.

This program allows numerous adjustments and options to your personal preferences in using your mouse.

Should you not have the Setpoint CD, here is the link from which to download it:

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/584/3131?wt.mc_id=usym_/setpoint_global&strf=Universal_Symlink

Once you've opened the first page, click on downloads, click on the operating system you are using, then click on whether your OS is 32 or 64 bit. Most computers will use the 32-bit version. From there follow the steps in order to get this download. Once downloaded, install the program and then explore the numerous options and preferences you can make for your mouse.

Best of luck to you,

Thomas

Contro, Does it have the same problem using a different mouse? Have you checked the controller properties and controller assignments...Make sure it is set to make the move you want. Is there something stuck in the right click. Does the right click problem only occur in Q4 or does it have problems other times? How old is the mouse? Have you possibly worn the part out? Let me know what happens. Good Luck Tim

Changing Sensitivity

1. Open the SetPointTM software and assign a keystroke to the button you want to use. For further details about this procedure, launch the Help Center within SetPoint and view the mouse topic To change the task assigned to a button. 2. Click the Windows® Start button, locate the function or application you want to launch and right-click it to display a menu. (If the function or application you want to launch is not available from the Windows Start menu, use Windows Explorer to locate it and then right-click it.) 3. Select Properties. 4. In the Shortcut tab, enter a Shortcut key that is the same as the keystroke you chose at step 1. 5. Click OK.
