Need to wire a zone control for a closed system with a circulator

I INSTALLED A RINNAI R75LS TANKLESS WATER HEATER. I NEED TO ADD ZONE CONTROL TO GET THE CIRCULATOR TO RUN SO THE WATER FLOW TRIGGERS THE RINNAI HEATER TO START. I HAVE A SR201 ZONE CONTROL, BUT THE WIRING DIAGRAM SHOWS CONNECTING TO A BOILER CONTROL.

couple of questions, i take it you are trying to circulate the water so that you dont need to wait a while when you turn on a hot tap to get hot water? or do you have it as some kinda heating loop? are you using a circulation pump if so what one.

Tankless water heaters for domestic use fire whenever there is water flow. As long as the pump flow rate exceeds the minimum flow rate of the appliance, the heaters hould fire (the return temperature needs to be less than the set temperature as well). Boiler systems will typically require a thermostatic signal (call for heat) and water flow before they will fire. Tankless heaters are designed for residential use and only require pump flow to fire.

Thats because the rinnai does not have a set up for a circulating pump it would make the unit run all the time,, they are not designed to work that way,, you will have to just wait for the hot water to get to the faucet just like before,,don't let any one tell you there is a way once the water flows it turn on the tankless so it would never shut off, you could get on that goes on a timer on say the farthest fauset away from the unit and set the timer to come on like 2 min before you are ready to use the water in that bathroom in the morning or at night other then that there is nothing else you can do

the easiest way to do this is to add a circualtar pump opn the hot side supply line in a bathroom sink farthest away from the water heater, have it on a timer that just plugs into the wall, this way you can set it for about 5 min, beofre you are going to use the hot water in the morning or at nightm but to out a zone valve in would be waisting alot of gas on the water heater beings it will still take the same amount of time for the water to get hot on the faucets farthest away from the unit,, by doing it the way I described it will pull the hot water thru the lines where a zone would notbe efficiant to your system,

Controller not working

The rinnai is a computer that heats water. It is not ordinary water heater most people are familiar with, and repairs are not do-it-yourself, requiring a trained technician qualified in that brand who can diagnose both computer and water heater problems and plumbing problems.
Call rinnai for recommended local technician. Click on support tab. Note their webpage is very short on repair details, unlike companies that sell tank-type heaters... because tankless units are not do-it-yourself.
http://www.rinnai.us/tankless-water-heater
Problem might be simple blown glass fuse on circuit board or complete failure of computer and sensors.
Here is page written for Rheem tankless, that explains general complexity of tankless computers, and showing required maintenance, such as deliming each year:

To save problems with tankless computers plus anticipated expense of maintenance and repairs, I recommend homeowner install tank-type gas water heater:

Also install one-time-use whole house surge protector, and install grounding rods to prevent further damage... lightning frequently likes the same places over and again:

What does it take to convert a Rinnai R75LS water heater from propane to natural gas?

Contact Rinnai.
Gas control valve is different, burner is different, burner and gas valve must match, threads are regular instead of reverse, dip switches probably have to be changed since combustion of NG is not as hot. Maybe different sensors. Pressures are lower with NG.

Im looking for the best option to get a Rinnai unit that would supply water at 30c or just below. i was going to buy the REU 55RT but looking at the manual i dont know how low the temp can get

Most tankless are preset to 120 degrees F.
30 degrees C is 86 degrees F.

If you want adjustable product, then tankless is not best choice.
Tankless are high tech gadgets with multiple interrelated parts controlled by sensors feeding information to control board. Everything internal and external has to be working correctly for tankless to work at all.
Most tankless brands do not suggest self-install, or self-adjustment, or any adjustment for reason given above.
You would be better off buying typical tank-type gas or electric and then thermostat adjustment is simple.

How do I turn it on? I press the "on" button and

The manual says:
http://www.coinwash.com/temp/rinnai.pdf

"For the name of the Authorized Distributor or Installer nearest you, please contact your local HVAC dealer or gas service technician, visit the Rinnai website (www.rinnai.us), call Rinnai at1-800-621-9419 or write to Rinnai, 103 International Drive, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269"

Manual says that the remote is for setting temperature.
When you turn on hot water spigot, tankless water heater will heat the water to the set point temperature.
If water heater is not set up to use remote, then tankless unit will heat to 140 degrees F.
"With the MCC-45-4US remote control installed the water temperature is adjustable from 96
to 180°F. The water temperature cannot be set to a temperature other than 140°F
without the use of the MCC-45-4US remote control unit. If you require a temperature
other than 140°F you must install the MCC-45-4US remote control unit."

"Error messages are displayed on the remote control units, simplifying service calls."

Page 9 of manual shows hot to set temperature using remote.
Water taps must be shut off to set temperature.
Circulating pump must be turned off.
"Simply press the H or C button until desired temperature is displayed"
"green in-use indicator will display"

If your unit is not working, the manual says to contact local plumber.

I'm assuming you heater will let water flow through and it's not completely blocked with scale. There is a motorised valve that needs to be open. Start with the heater connected normally and run a hot tap. While it is firing turn off the power, this will leave the valve in it's open state. Now connect up your heater to the vinegar supply; do not turn the power back on.

what you have is called a hydronic heating system.
this heating system is completely isolated from your water heater I believe this as most hydronic systems I have installed circulate water through the furnace to heat the house. If this is true you need only to connect your old water heater cold water supply side to the tankless and, old hot water side to the house system: the showers/tubs/sinks etc. in your home.
my appologies if I have missunderstood your inquiry.

Runs out of hot water

I wonder if you have this problem below caused by a drop in water pressure from someone flushing a toilet or a washing machine. I would call the company to remedy this issue.

17. What is a cold water sandwich effect? The term “cold water sandwich effect” is a term that is used to describe the introduction of cold water into the hot water supply line during frequent on/off operation of an instantaneous water heater. The cold water sandwich effect, when present, appears as a momentary drop in hot water temperature as it is discharged from a hot water supply outlet (i.e. shower, tub, or faucet). This phenomenon is present in the operation of all instantaneous, tankless style, water heaters, but is minimized with the high tech design of Rinnai water heaters.
The technology built into the Rinnai water heaters is designed to minimize the cold water sandwich effect. Rinnai water heaters are microprocessor controlled and when water flow through them ceases, they remain in a “ready to fire state” for approximately 1 minute. If water flow through a Rinnai water heater begins within the first minute following water flow stoppage, the water heater will fire back up within 1 to 2 seconds. This minimizes the cold water sandwich effect that would otherwise be experienced with a low tech tankless water heater. It should be noted that the cold water sandwich effect cannot be removed completely from tankless style water heaters. The safety standards developed to insure the safe operation of water heaters require a delay in the ignition sequence of all gas water heaters.
While the cold water sandwich effect cannot be completely eliminated from standard plumbing systems, it can be eliminated from plumbing systems that have a supply and return hot water circulating system. Rinnai has developed 2 methods to eliminate the cold water sandwich effect in residential hot water circulating systems.
The first (and preferred) method to remove the cold water sandwich from circulating systems utilizes a small electric tank water heater (powered up) that is used with a dual purpose. The small water heater acts as a mixing tank to eliminate the cold water sandwich effect from the Rinnai water heater and it uses its electric heating element to offset the heat losses from the hot water circulating system.
The second method to remove the cold water sandwich from circulating systems utilizes a small 2 to 6 gallon storage tank installed on the hot water outlet of the Rinnai water heater. This tank acts as a mixing tank to blend the cold water sandwich with hot water and eliminating its effect at fixtures.

I had the same problem with my tankless waterheater (flashing c4 76 alternately). I called Rheem
tech support and they had me 1 power down the remotepanel 2 unplug the unit from the wall 3 remove the cover 4 remove the wires for the remote panel from the circuit board and pull the twisted pair that goes to the remote out from the bottom of the unit. 5 reinstall the cover 6 plug the unit back
into the wall and turn on the hot water see if it works. It did in my case and they are sending me a new remote panel. I hope it helps.........
