Why would I need to duplicate my hard drive?

In the case that you get a virus that makes your computer not function properly you would use a duplicate or back up of your hard drive to return to the most recent (or previously created backup) of your hard drive so it works. You can use a duplicating software to copy your hard drive to a new hard drive should you want to upgrade your system. If you want to sell your computer without giving away your personal information that is stored on the hard drive you can use a duplication software to load a backup of your hard drive from before you put any personal information on to it.

My group has 5 DGR 100 DVRs. I'm getting the HDD fail msg and was wondering if I can replace the hard drives with a larger unit (320 GB). Also the power button on the DVRs does not shut the unit down....

Hello, Roy!

How about more info on your System? WHO makes it and WHAT is the model number? We may be able to help you with more specific answers?

YES, that power switch is a biggie! Most computers BOOT and stuff PROGRAMS/DRIVERS and mandatory files into MEMORY. If a screen/software "Shutdown Button" was provided in the Operating System, it's ALWAYS BEST to use that!

IF your programs are loaded into memory and you suddenly DISCONNECT power, you run a BIG risk of clobbering your software! So that may be a very dangerous answer... like rolling dice till you get killed.

But some 'duplicators' are simple ON > LOAD > COPY switches with NO display needed? IF this is the case for you, there should be no problems disconnecting the cloner AC instead.

As for the Hard Drive?? Well that's hard to say... a broad brush says ya, as long as your SOFTWARE clones over, no problem upgrading to a larger drive. I personally know of NO system that demands a specific hard drive size... not even a TIVO.

Sure wish you could have been more specific!

Duplicate all item

This is usually caused by the effects of certain virus on your computer hard disk. As a result of its presence, it causes your computer to duplicate all the items and thereby filling up your hard disk space unnecessarily. This gradually makes your pc slow and run out of free space.

The first step to tackle this problem is to download a very good anti-virus software and try a full pc scan and eliminate any traces of a virus. You can get bit defender. It is a good one.

Secondly, if the virus still persists, the ultimate solution is to do a complete format of the system and install a fresh operating system on it. This way, you might lose all your information but you 100 percent sure that the virus is no longer in your computer.
Beware not to use online scanning as they are false.
Hope this helps you? Please comment for more information

The computer doesn't recognize anymore

Go to Maxtor's website. Download and install the driver for your specific model and operating system.

Then, see if your computer sees the drive when you connect it.

If not, there could be a problem with the drive's USB cable or the drive itself.

Also, be certain that your computer's USB ports are OK.

Hope this helps.

Transfer operating system to new hard drive

You can't transfer an operating system to a new hard drive, you must install it. When you install an operating system, it makes specific files depending on all of your hardware, including your hard drive. Your restore disks should be fine to reinstall Windows on your new hard drive. Just use a backup program to backup all of the data you want to keep since it won't be there on your new drive. Good luck.

No you can't. you have to install it all over again on the second one.

you can copy all the files from the old hard drive to the new one but it will not boot.
certain files have to be in specific locations in the hard drive.

Of course you could place the necessary files in the exact locations and it will work but its a little complicated.
