under video card, it says I have an intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME graphics controller. does that help?

My brother had the same problem with his hp. He had to have it shipped out to the hp repair facilities after notifying them, and then they repaired it. I also have a hp laptop and have not have had any issues with it yet. If your unable to afford such repairs try asking a local computer repair shop for advice.

Well depends if you have an Nvidia graphics card or an ATI graphics card. Come back and tell me which so I can help you and tell you where to go.

When you boot it up after you see the main screen, I know that you can barely see but you can see something, on your keyboard there's a key that have 2 screens like this: [_]/[_], it could be by F7 or on it, well you would have to hold down the Fn ( function ) button then press on that key and it will switch from the LCD display from your laptop to a monitor from a desktop, which is the connection you have on the back of your laptop.

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook. Quite unexpectedly, I went to turn my computer on, and the screen never came on. The lights on the keyboard lit up, but not the screen. I let it sit for a day, turned it on,...

Hi tecarter...

Hook your laptop to an external monitor and see if the screen comes on...if it does then your lcd screen is faulty and needs replacment.
If it does not come on then re-download your video driver/s.
If that does not work.
Maybe your lcd inverter or backlight bulb is faulty and needs replacement.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

The screen remains black when computer is turned

maybe a hardware problem, on booting the pc, move the screen to every angle to see if there is a connection problem.
If so, then use your warranty if you have one.

Hp dv1000 no backlight, repalced inverter, still no screen

plug in a monitor in the side of the laptop if it shows up then the lcd is bad. Also try and reset the memory by pulling it out and then put it back in if not in all the wall nothing will appear on the LCD.

My laptop HP Pavilion dv1000 is not working so I pressed F10 for the Bios Setup Utility went to tools to do a Hard Drive Self Test and the Test Status is #1-07 Fail. What does that mean?

Hi there.
The error code means the drive has failed or that Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology, or S.M.A.R.T is faulty.

Go back into the bios and disable the
S.M.A.R.T, hit F10, save the changes and try to boot again.
Please post back with the results.

Good luck

Adding multiple monitors from my HP pavilion

you have an ext monitor connection which you can use another monitor or get s-video lead and connect to a tv.
use fn + f4(or f key that has little square icon printed on it)
this combination switches from laptop screen to ext screen/tv

HP Pavilion dv1000 works fine on CRT but no LCD screen

Sounds like the LCD backlight or inverter went bad. More probably the inverter, and that's good because,of the two, it's usually cheaper and easier to replace.
Before considering those, check the lid switch to make sure that it is operating correctly and not stuck down.

Faulty backlight hp laptop

Well, first off, do you get a screen (external or onboard) if you boot into the bios? If you have no video whatsoever, the only thing that would start working again after time off, then stop, would be the video module went. slowly, but it went.

Main cause is overheating, caused by the heatsink/fan becoming clogged up.

What makes you think the backlight was the problem BTW? Sure it wasn't just the inverter?

Let me know if you can access bios?

Good luck
