SOURCE: how do i install a combination toggle & outlet

If I understand you question (if not please clarify) you have a switch and outlet combo and you have a box with a black and white coming in one side and a black and white going out the other side. Here's the deal the switch side only deals with the black (hot) lines but the outlet needs a common (white) line so there should be two brass posts the black coming in goes to the bottom brass post and the black going out to the light goes to the top. You should now have two silver posts and these take the white lines they are common to each other (electrically speaking that means they are two ends of the same wire to put it simply) In the event you only have one silver post tie both whites to that one. if this was a switch box the two whites would be tied together with a wire nut and shoved in the back.

good luck I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Don't know how to fit the wire into the inside of the switch

Since there are only 2 wires, it doesn't matter which wire goes where. Either way it will work.

SOURCE: I have two pass & seymour 15A 660-wg switches

Yes. The incoming hot wire should connect to the sensor switch with a wirenut. Put another wire under that wirenut and jump it over to the fan switch.

The cord that runs to your light contains two wires.
The cord switch interrupts one wire.
The second wire runs uninterrupted between wall plug and light.

The photo below is not the same switch as yours, but it shows how one wire is interrupted and the other wire is uninterrupted.

Which wire do you want to interrupt?
Look at the wall plug.
Is the plug polarized, where one blade of the plug is wider?
If the plug is polarized, then one blade is wide and the other is narrower.
Each blade of the plug feeds one of the two wires going to lamp.
Locate the narrower blade, and the wire that comes from that side of plug.
The narrow-blade wire is the wire you want to interrupt when installing the cord switch.

If the plug is not polarized, then choose one wire.

What does common mean on a dimmer switch

The common wire is usually the white wire. Some switchs are only wired with a hot (black) wire. So not all switchs need a common wire (leg).

I am trying to install a Pass & Seymour Harmony fan speed control switch. It has 2 red wires and 1 black. I hooked up the power to the red line and the black leading to the wiring for the fan. No...

Are you wiring for 3-way or single pole?
In other words, are you using 1 switch (single-pole) or 2 switches (3-way)
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Pass-and-seymour-3-way-3-speed-fan-control.pdf

Before installing device, separate all wires in box and turn power on and then test each wire to bare ground wire >> tester will light up on Hot power source.
Black wire on device is connected to Hot power source.
Red wire on same side of device as black wire is capped off in single pole application.
Red wire on other side of device from black wire goes to the fan motor.
Green wire is ground.

Set fan on highest speed before connecting red wire to fan, and then do not adjust fan speed using pull chain.

I am unsure what volt-amp-testing will show for power output on either red wire, but certainly it will vary as the switch is adjusted to each speed.

I'm want to install a toggle switch/outlet but have 2 white wires and 1 black. It's a Pass & Seymour 691-WCC6 switch. Can I install this switch?

More information is needed.
Unknown what wiring device was there before, and which wires were connected to which screw terminals.
Wire color is not as important as knowing what wire is for.
If both white wires were connected together before, then they need to be put back same way.
Separate wires. Turn on power. Test each wire to bare ground. Tester lights up on Hot wire. The Hot wire is usually black.
In back of box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nuts. These are the neutrals.
Test black hot wire to neutrals and tester will light up. If box does not have neutrals, then device cannot be installed to code.

I to want replace a regular duplex outlet with a TM818-WCC6 and want just the outlet switched. How do I wire it?

The Pass and Seymour plug-switch combo has 3 screws
There is a dark screw on one side .... the black Hot wire from breaker box connects here

There are silver and brass colored screws on other side of device

The white Neutral from breaker box connects to silver screw connects here >>> this will give power to your receptacle
The black wire going to Load (light, fan, motor that you want switch to control) connects to brass colored screw ... the switch controls power to Load

How to test for black Hot
Remove devices and separate wires
Turn on power
Test each wire to bare copper wire
Tester lights up on black Hot wire
How to test for white Neutral
Test black Hot to each white wire
Tester lights up on Neutral
