SOURCE: how do i do a complete system restore on sylvania

First, I have never seen a SYNET582 net Book, but I do own a SYNET07526, and I think that they both use the same WiFi chip and they are restored the sme way.

Flip the machine over and find a small hole about 1in. diagonally from the right lower corner of the data plate. Insert the tip of a tooth pick into the hole and press down for about 10 second, with the AC power connected to the machine. It should re-load a fresh copy of the operating system

If all youwant to do is fix the WiFi internet, then follow the directions detailed in the video on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/user/dgsupprt#p/u/7/4m6T81LX7n8, even though it is for the 7in , the WiFi is the same.

How to organize data on your computer

Organizing data is the best thing that a person can do, who likes to be systematic, professional and clutter free with regards to data.

There is no real meaning in keeping your computer disorganized which would result in malfunctioning and cost you money that you can save if you just organize your data effectively.

The best way to organize the data on your hard disk is as follows:-

Perfect Partitions·

  • First things first, when you install an operating system, for e.g. Windows Xp you get an option for partitioning your drive, make sure you make full use of this option to create as many drives as you feel are appropriate depending on your hard disk capacity.
  • If you want to have 1 partition which is small and the other 3 to be bigger, then you can just reduce the of the first partition which you would use mainly for operating system and installing applications.
  • So for e.g. a 500 GB hard disk can partitioned as 50 GB for operating system or the root drive usually c: drive ,and then the other three drives you can use for bulk storage i.e. 150 each ,which would result in 50GB+150GBx3 = 500GB Hard disk.
After installing the operating system, install only those programs which you use, and are essential for your use.·

  • There is no meaning in installing programs that you don't use often, or don't actually use, for e.g. some people would like to install CorelDraw application , when they are not working on it.· This does nothing but takes up unnecessary space on your hard disk drive which causes the hard disk to slow down or possibly get infected, if the software that has been installed is a pirated one.

Install Anti virus software as soon as you install an operating system

  • This is a prerequisite to make sure that you are safe from virus right from the time that you have your operating system installed. · Most of the time users want to install all the other application besides the anti virus software, this software could be infected by viruses, in case such software are pirated or you install them from a USB drive or a pen drive which has been infected.

Keep updating your anti virus while you use your PC·

  • As viruses are created daily, there is no way out but to keep updating your anti virus software from time to time, as and when they have an update.·
  • Usually the anti virus software is set on auto update mode, so when the time is due, the anti virus would download the latest update automatically, so if you disable auto update feature, it could potentially harm your computer.
Keep your desktop clean to have a nice relaxing look·

Now this depends on personal preferences but it has been observed that those people who fill their desktop with many shortcuts copy files on their desktop instead of a different folder of a hard disk or a different a partition realize that they have not organized their data.

The consequence about the above act is that, when your root drive gets infected by a potential virus, or it gets formatted or loses its data due to a power surge, and you find that you no longer are able to boot your operating system, the only option you have is to format the partition and install the operating system again.

There are ways to recover data but , many users are not experts in recovering data it could cost them much in terms of money when they ask someone for data recovery , but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Maintain all shortcuts for applications in one folder in your desktop·

  • There are many applications which are usually installed by users, therefore, it is always better to have their shortcuts in one folder to keep the desktop clean and clutter free.
Uninstall the applications that you don't use·

  • This is very crucial, as many people don't liketo uninstall application, but just ignore them despite the fact that they know these application regardless of their are taking up space in their computer's hard disk as well as registry.· Uninstalling such applications helps you to control which programs are useful to you and which aren't.
Hope you enjoy organizing your data.

Hi there, your external hard disk may be infected by virus.Firstly, remove the virus with anti-virus software in your computer. Then you can recover your files from hard disk with third party data recovery software.I have succeed to recover files from hard disk with Tenorshare data recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard disk to look for lost data.
By the way,you can download a trial version and scan your hard disk for free to preview whether your files can be recovered. http://www.any-data-recovery.com/index.htm

Have a virus. How do I do system restore to factory settings?

Hi

Have you any anti virus installed on your laptop ??

doing a factory restore is a bit drastic if having a virus is the only problem

there are several free anti virus programs on the net that you can download
that is if your laptop is still usable

free avg is quite a good one just be careful and read each stage of install so that you don't install some of the stuff that they wanna give you along with the free avg

If you still wanna do a system restore back to factory settings
make sure you save any files or pics that you don't want to loose on a spare hard drive or pen drive
or even burn them to disk
that is given the fact that your laptop is still working

DID you do any back up disks when you first had the laptop this would be useful if you did

Some acer's have a recovery partition
i think its some where like
start
programs
acer empering technology
acer erecovery manager
restore or recover something like that
click on it
follow the on screen instructions
windows will restart and hopefully do the recover

good luck
but i would try to remove the virus before a system recovery

I have sony Vaio VGN-CS36GJ - Recently i was trying to restore it to factory settings via Vaio recovery due to virus attach but suddenly it didn't either recovered to factory setting but looks as operating...

I would have recomended Norton Antivirus or a full programme anti virus to clean your drive. However, it is almost too late for repairs.
You need to format your drive but as there seems to be a "Worm" type virus, I guess due to the problems you are having trying to re install OS, it will keep reinfecting the drive due to it being resident in the memory.
You really need an antivirus programme to clean your Sony Vaio before you can succesfully place an uninfected OS on your drive. I hope the recovery partion is not infected as well, a good anti virus programme will clean it though. When it is clean, boot with a system disk with the same OS on it and when you get to drive "C" hopefully drive "D" will be available, assuming "D" is the recovery drive partition.

When you get your anti virus disk, you will need it to be a bootable disk with the format command on it. When it has been cleaned you can then format the disk and put your recovery OS disk back on.
Hope this helps.

After I had removed a virusprogram my computer will not start. I had non recover. Please help!

If your computer is unable to load OS from hard drive, try the safe mode by tapping the f8 key while the computer starting and in the menu options select safe mode and windows will load with limited settings and If you have any other anti virus that you are already using and if its a paid version, Update the anti virus and please perform a full scan and see if the anti virus that you have finds or detects any virus in the machine. If not, as suggested download avast free anti virus and schedule a boot time scan.

If you are loking for a free version of anti virus, I would suggest AVAST anti virus which has Boot time scan aswell, which will scan your computer for boot sector viruses also, before even the Operating system can load.

1. Don't panic! This golden rule may prevent the loss of important data stored in your computer and help you avoid unnecessary stress.
2. Disconnect your computer from the Internet.
3. If your computer is connected to a Local Area Network, disconnect it.
4. If the computer cannot boot from the hard drive (error at startup), try to start the system in Safe Mode or from the Windows boot disk
5. Before taking any action, back up all critical data to an external drive (a floppy disk, CD, flash memory, etc.).
6. Install antivirus software if you do not have it installed.
7. Download the latest updates for your antivirus database. If possible, do not use the infected computer to download updates, but use a friend's computer, or a computer at your office, an Internet cafe, etc. This is important because if you are connected to the Internet, a virus can send important information to third parties or may try to send itself to all email addresses in your address book. You may also be able to obtain updates for your antivirus software on CD-ROM from the software vendors or authorized dealers.
8. Perform a full system scan.

If your computer has suffered a severe virus attack
Some viruses and Trojans can cause severe damage to your computer:
1. If you cannot boot from your hard drive (error at startup), try to boot from the Windows rescue disk. If the system can not recognize your hard drive, the virus has damaged the disk partition table. In this case, try to recover the partition table using scandisk, a standard Windows program. If this does not help, contact a computer data recovery service. Your computer vendor should be able to provide contact details for such services.
If you have a disk management utility installed, some of your logical drives may be unavailable when you boot from the rescue disk. In this case, you should disinfect all accessible drives, reboot from the system hard drive and disinfect the remaining logical drives.
2. Recover corrupted files and applications using backup copies after you have scanned the drive containing this data.

Issue: How to manually delete or clean a virus?

Follow the step's below carefully to accomplish the task.

1: Start your computer in safemode. 2: If you know where the virus are hiding delete the executable file. 3: Open the registry and go to the keys below and add an : in front of the value of the string that you think its the virus. Like this, if string is "virus" and its value is "c:\virus.exe" change its value to ":c:\virus.exe". The : is like comenting out the value. But if you are sure its the virus you can just delete the string. Here are the keys you maybe want to look at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce
4: The virus can start itself from some other places to. win.ini is the most common files that viruses can use. Soo you should find the files named win.ini and system.ini and look through them and see if you find anything.
5: Look through the startup folder that is normaly located in your profile directory \Start Menu\Programs\Startup. 6: Try searching for the virus executable to see if its hiding some other place. 7: Finally look through the list of services that windows is running. This list is often located under control panel - administrative tools - services. After this 7 steps just reboot your computer in normal mode and try to figure out if the virus is still there.. If not SUCCESS if yes, try to go back to safe mode and hunt some more. Off course this 7 steps will not work on every virus out there, but most of them should be cleared.. Just every step that you perform to succesfully clean the virus. All the best, Regard's Pcs365.8

Mostly the company provided recovery DVD re-partitions or at least formats your hard disk. In both cases your loose your data. If you have some data you need try this workaround.
You need a Vista installation DVD.
Here is what you do

1. Boot from the dvd and select to install vista.
2. You will be notified that your old system will be backed up to a Windows Old Folder on C:\. Accept this and proceed with your installation. (DO NOT PERFORM ANY FORMATTING OR PARTITIONING or else you will loose your data and recovery.)
3. Finish the windows installation.
4. At this stage it is recommended to install a good anti-virus with latest virus definitions updates in case your problem was caused by a virus.
5. When done open my computer and open c:\ drive their you will find a windows old folder with all your old files back up. Back up your files to an external media ( A CD, DVD, or external hard disk)
6. In this folder search for the word recover. from the list you will find either a recovery disk creator software or your computers recovery software itself. I have tried many models and this program launches you when you trigger it here. If the CD/ DVD creator works for you well and good. You don't need to read any further just go on create your DVDs. Else look for Recovery and open the program and continue the wizard. Make a Full factory recovery. (Be sure to make a back up of your old files before doing this). Good Luck
