A Clothes Washer with the complaint of "Fills, Agitates, But Does not Drain or Spin" can be:

Defective Door/Lid Switch (Very Common): The lid-switch "that clicking sound you may hear when opening/shutting the door" can become defective after constant "slamming or dropping" or the door. This switch is a relatively simple repair. The lid switch can be located on the inside top of the machine and can be typically removed by (2) screws and un-plugging the electrical from the inside. The lid-switch costs about $15 or so for the part.

Drive-Belt or Coupling (Common) - You may have either a belt or coupling that may connect to the motor, transmission (pulley) and pump (on direct-drive machines). The belt and coupling is the driving force that engages your tub to spin and drain. Typically, upon receiving power from the lid-switch at beginning of rinse cycle, the "drive-train" (motor, transmission and water-pump) is "kick into action". Belt-Drive Machines: The belt is fairly simple to replace and runs about $20 or so. The belts circles and inter-connects with the Transmission Pulley, Motor Pulley or even with the Water Pump Pulley (Metal Cylinder type with belt groove). Direct-Drive Machines: The coupling runs about $10 or so is a little more complicated to repair. The coupling is a total of (3) small - inter-locking plastic components located and attached between the motor (mounted to shaft) and transmission (mounted to shaft) and enables the transmission to spin, upon motor receiving power.

Timer Control - (Very Uncommon)

Hi Norm. Welcome to FixYa.
The first thing to check with the kind of symptoms your machine exhibits is the operation of the lid switch. Make sure that the pin/plunger on the lid itself has not broken off, and check the actuator lever on the switch itself. It is REALLY common on your model for the actuator arm to break off or crack, and this will cause no spin/no pump problems. Your machine is built by Whirlpool and the part number for the switch assembly is a 3849238. You can get it at any local whirlpool parts center in your area.

I hope you find this info helpful and thank you for allowing us to serve you.

SOURCE: washer machine not draining water

The GE serviceman repaired my machine approximately 40 minutes. I paid $189 for the issue to be resolved in 5 minutes. This is no exaggeration.

The serviceman arrived at 2:50pm and finished at 2:55pm. It took another 5 minutes for me to write the check and he was gone.

My recommendation is...
- Purchase the GE service plan prior to calling GE to repair the service. A 1-Year service plan is $40 and 2-Year is $75. It costs $99 just for the serviceman to come to your house.

- Fix the issue yourself. Of course, this only applies if you are handy. I am handy and I tried to fix the problem myself. I just couldn't figure out the location of the access panel.

Solution...
The access panel is on the front. This can be removed in less than 20 seconds. The notches on the access panel is in line with the edging of the washing machine door. To remove, slide in a flat object like a flat-head screwdriver. Wiggle up and down on each side until door comes loose. Lift up door and set aside.

The water pump is on the lower right in the front of the washing machine. If your wash machine has any water in it, you want to use a shop vac to empty it out. The serviceman used a clamp to stop the water from running down. A little water still came out but he used my shop vac to get it up. It was less than a cup full and I had a 1/2 tub of water. Afterwards, he stuck his fingers in the water pump and pulled out the item that was blocking the pump.

Guess what was blocking the pump? The item was my two-month old daughter's sock. He recommends using a washing bag.

Remember this solution is for GE 315 model that is a top load washer. This will most likely work with similar models. I knew my water pump was still working because it hummed during the rinse and spin cycles.

Good luck and I hope this saves you $189 or any other fees.

SOURCE: Kenmore front-load washer stops at rinse cycle

When the washer initially fills for the wash, is it only hot water entering the drum? Try switching the water temperature between hot and cold as it fills. If any of them show little or no water getting through, it sounds too easy but check to make sure water supply taps are on, and that the cold/hot fill hoses aren't reversed. Remove the fill hoses and check any of the screen filters for blockage (in the hoses and in the inlet water valve). When the machine stops and waits to fill but all you hear is a hum, it sounds like there is power going to the valve but water is not able to get through it.
Good luck!

SOURCE: Will not spin on any rinse cycle

Hi, This washer does not have a belt. While the washer is agitating, if you lift the lid will it stop? Some models will agitate but not spin if the lid is up. It sounds to me like the lid switch might be going bad.
If you will get me a model #, I can look this up for you and give you a better idea.

Beko WMP652W washing machine will start cycle but get stuck at end of wash, doesnt go onto rinse or spin any help please?

see the next steps and use the common sense: God bless you
When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem: It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer. It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Kicking out water during wash cycle - spin instead of agitation

Hi,
Try these

  1. Check the drain hose, it should be at least as high as the top of the wash tub, about 38 inches.
  2. The drain hose must sit loosely in the house drain. Do not seal the air gap around the drain hose or a siphon will occur.
  3. Check the drain control lever
  4. Test the drain control coils
  5. Check the cam bar
pls rate my suggestion..

Rinse water fills the washing machine when the spin cycle starts

Check your outlet filter, most likely it is blocked, preventing the water from draining out. Chk your pump too. Before this disconnect from the wall socket; and also check the pipe coming from the tub to the filter. Siphon out the excess water from inside the machine before you open the pipes.
