Question about GeoSpring Hybrid Water Heater

Open Question

GeoSpring GEH50DNSRSA hybird water heater display says not connected to correct voltage but input is correct.

When turn on it runs the fans for it's test and then beeps about every 10 seconds and display says voltage not correct, or heat pump error. Says needs 240 volt not 120 volt but I checked and it's 240. Also there is no actual error code for heat pump.

I got an error code FC on my Geospring Hybrid Water Heater. Please help

Sounds like you aren't the only one having this problem. The FC indicates a compressor failure. Here are the results one customer got after complaining directly to GE.

My Geospring hybrid water heater recently reported a heat pump failure and generated an error code called "hfc code f-c." Although GE will not tell you what this means, apparently it means failed compressor and mainly involves a failed part called the "evaporator asm." I think what happens is the coils in it leak, releasing the refrigerant inside. The heat pump cannot work without it. When this happens, it switches to "regular" resistant electric heat, which defeats the purpose of paying the extra expense and owning a hybrid water heater like the Geospring. I discovered this problem to be widely reported on the internet. I even found repair companies advertising hfc code f-c repair ... Google even autofilled it after I typed only "ge hybrid w," so clearly many people are having this problem. I've owned mine for about 2.5 years, but I think it lasted this long because our hot water use is relatively low. Others reported this problem in as little as a few months. BTW, evaporator coils last at least 10 years (the life expectancy of a Geospring), so there is no way this part should be failing so frequently and so quickly ... this is clearly GE's fault. I would not recommend buying the Geospring until GE comes clean and can assure the public that it has solved the problem on ALL Geospring models (I own the DNSRSA model) and is no longer using shoddy parts for manufacturing OR repair and extends full warranty coverage for all its customers that have this problem (and the other problems reported, such as power supply and main board).

FOLLOW UP (2/6/13): My Geospring has been repaired. GE agreed to do the repair for no charge for parts and labor. GE is also reimbursing me for extra energy consumed due to the heat pump failure. I asked if the problem had been solved so that the same part would not fail again and I was told that it was because the evaporator has been redesigned. OTOH, when I asked the repairman what the real problem was, he said, "China" (a man of few words). We'll see how it works out, I'll let you know if it doesn't! I did not have problems arranging for the repair, though I'm sorry to hear that others have. Could be because I live in a metropolitan area that might have more readily available resources than others. If you own a Geospring with the dreaded infamous "hfc code f-c," please make sure GE gives you the same consideration I got: free repair with no charge for parts and labor, plus a check for energy reimbursement.

GeoSpring GEH50DNSRSA wire diagram

Here are all the resources that are available for GE heat pump without calling GE and hearing them tell you to call service technician:
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-heat-pump-manuals-by-date.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/Review-GE-Heat-Pump-water-heater.html
There is no wiring diagram for the bundles of wires coming from chip control board.
As general rule, these things are made to last 10 years, and afterwards will not function or be repairable. It's like a window air conditioner, except connected to water pipes, and connected to computer chip and multiple sensors, each susceptible to failure, and then the machine is used 24 hours a day, 365.
Designs have changed continually from 2009 to 2010 to 2012 models.
It's likely you got a nice piece of junk with depleted anode rod and failed sensors that stopped working and somebody got rid of it because it wasn't repairable.

Keep getting a f9 and f10 code . how do we fix what do they mean

1) F9 and F10 appear to be element failure/ Call for service
http://waterheatertimer.org/Review-GE-Heat-Pump-water-heater.html#error
http://waterheatertimer.org/Review-GE-Heat-Pump-water-heater.html#element

2) Copy following link for more GE Hybrid Geospring resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-heat-pump-manuals-by-date.html

3) Call GE and they will tell you to call for service:
1-888-443-4394

4) 2009 service manual says you can clear fault codes by pressing Filter, Lock, Vacation button sequentially within 3 seconds. Scroll to clear all fault codes using arrow keys. When that is highlighted, press Filter, Lock, Vacation again.
Others report this does not work, so it may depend on model. Or maybe buttons need to be pressed simultaneously.

5) GE does not want folks working on their own water heater.
Do not buy expensive water heaters you cannot fix yourself.
Average service call for GE heat pump is $400 which helps defeat anticipated savings from buying hybrid.

Had to replace main board and power supply, now have a heat pump error. HPF code F4.Unit is 2 years old.

Type, brand, model number of water heater is not known.
If you have GE heat pump water heater, the parts are covered after first year for defects in workmanship. Otherwise the expensive water heater is not covered if it stops working.
The risk of failure is perfect reason to avoid expensive water heaters, because all costs are energy, and these units cannot guarantee longevity, even with correct and regular maintenance.
If your new laptop computer needs a motherboard, that's red flag that the computer machine will never work correctly again. Same is true for water heaters, or any expensive digitally-controlled appliance.
Same is true for tankless water heaters and hybrid water heaters and condensing water heaters and complicated solar water heater systems.
Call the manufacturer and see what they say.
Check voltage to unit. Make sure the unit is grounded.
Post question with exact mode and brand name on professional water heater forum.
