Stepmill 7000 seems to be skipping. Changing the wall socket as suggested in earlier post is not the solution.

after removing the brushes they appeared to be ok, they were reinstalled. We tried to operate again and machine slowly started to grab and regulate speed after approx. 2 min. it worked fine for 10 min. or so although the field led light was not completely lit it was flickering. Now the light has gone out and is spinning freely again

  • joelroberts3 Jan 28, 2009

all wires seem to be secure, no burns or corrosion on circuit board

Just clean and rebuild or simply resoldered all parts joints in the circuit board so the parts connectivity renew so it function very well and most of all, if you see a capacitor there replaced it all. Maybe that is the caused of the stepmill not to regulate or function normally. The function of the capacitor is to hold the voltage if the capacitor is leaky already it will not hold the voltages causing the machine to function abnormally .I experienced like this capacitor problem when I repair an escalator before, its function abnormally its cannot be regulated.I did the procedure i said above and replaced all the capacitor its works find its run normally.

Hope it may help you;

Change the led light

    The switching
pulses from these power FETs are fed to a toroid transformer because,
unlike your analog power supply, they switch at a very high switching
    frequency, 80 Khz? 100 Khz?...it matters not...it's high, so we need a
high frequency transformer. High frequency toroid transformers at tiny
little things, not big honking 50/60 Hz beasts that drink copper. There
are several output windings, maybe, like the one powering your computer
where we need several output voltages (+5, -12, +12, -15, +15 or more in
some). The IC's sensing circuit watches the highest load output that would
    vary the worst.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described problem could indicate a faulty speed controller. Additionally, the LEDs going off further indicates that the main board is fault. In most models, the speed controller is also in the main board.

This of course would require opening the unit, perform voltage measurements, determine faulty component and subsequent part(s) replacement. Further, a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron would be required. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Another possibility is a loose connector or corroded/burnt wire/terminal.

    Appreciate your postback/update.

The symptoms described: "it worked fine for 10 min. or so although the field led light was not
completely lit it was flickering. Now the light has gone out and is
    spinning freely again
" points to an initially intermittent fault that develops into a full fault after a period of time. Since by design your unit makes use of a motor, then the most likely culprit is the controller of the motor. At different speeds, either the motor would be receiving varying voltages or different windings of the motor are used. Either way, it is the controller that selects what voltage or what winding receive power is in question. This could then be checked/monitored with the use of a DVM/VOM (voltmeter).

To my knowledge, a transformer would either supply correct voltage or none at all. There is no way for it to supply higher than specified. Not unless the replacement transformer is not the specified one.

A higher voltage would initiate a "domino effect", higher than required voltage from the transformer, higher voltage to the diodes/capacitors, higher input to the regulator; in all likelihood a fuse or circuit breaker would blow/trip.

On idle machine -- power and field lights are lit, relay is NOT (relay board)

With everything that you have tested and the relay board testing okay, this sounds like the console is the problem.

Tip

Too Much Resistance on Stepmill

The first step in troubleshooting too much resistance or constant resistance begins with the lower board. You will want to first verify that the Field LED is lit on the lower board. As shown in the video, the Field LED is off initially, when the steps are engaged it lights up, after about 5 seconds the light should go off. If the Field LED stays lit during a workout or after a workout is completed, this is a sign that the console is faulty. There is constant power being supplied through the console keeping a full load and causing no change in resistance. If the Field LED remains lit, the console needs replaced.
