I had the same problem, At the time, I called and was told to press each and every button on the remote twice. I really thought they were just fooling around - but it worked! I know it sounds ridiculous but I have done this twice in five years and I don't know how or why BUT IT WORKS!!!!

Make sure you take the batteries out first before pressing all those buttons!

My Maestro IR remote no longer works after 10 years

The infrared (IR) LED / remote may have stopped working. Since it emits IR light when used, you won't be able to actually see the light with the ***** eye. This makes it difficult, but not impossible to determine if the LED / remote is working or not. You can see if it works by pointing it a night time security camera - the type that has it's own built in IR LEDs to light up the area and does not need visible light to shine on the area (some video cameras can also "see" this light when playing back video taken of an active IR light source). Either record or have someone watch the display while pressing a button on the remote and aiming at the camera. You should be able to do this in broad daylight it will look like a flashlight shining into the camera.

If the LED in the remote is proved to be functioning, the IR receiver in the switch, or some other internal part of the switch may have failed. Since the receiver doesn't light up - there's no way to determine if this is the case without actually replacing the switch. It doesn't matter really, as there are no user replaceable parts in the switch - it either works, or it doesn't.

Ultimately, the best way to troubleshoot will be by replacing components with known good types. Use a battery that tests "good" on a tester, in a new or known to be good remote, used on a new or known to be good switch. You'd would deal with the situation by swapping only ONE component at a time. Once you change the device that allows to circuit to work, replace the new components with the old - except to last one; as this was likely the component that caused the failure.

Try taking the remote to a Home Depot, Lowe's or other similar store with a display of these switches. Do what you need to do to your remote to see if you can control any of the switches/ lights.

Good luck!

TV remote won't work. Batteries are OK. LG remote not programmed to change channels

Is it the original remote of the TV? or an "all in one" type???, if it's the original remote you don't need programming, if the batteries are fresh and correctly installed, than check the InfraRed output with the help of a camera... The human eye cannot see IfraRed but cameras do... so point the remote to anny camera (with video capabilities) and press the buttons on the remote, if you see the IR Lights flashing through the camera, than the remote is working, if not than the remote is dead, check for cold joint solders inside or buy an all in one remote...

I have tried programming my wii remote but it won't work. I pressed both the sync buttons, but all it does is flash on all 4 dots and then quits. I've changed the batteries in both remotes, as...

Here's what to do. I've had this happen many times.

1. Open up the SD Card compartment on the Wii.

2. Open up the battery cover on the remotes.

3. Press the red Sync button on the Wii, and then on one of the remotes.

4. Repeat for whatever remotes need synced.

This will make every remote act like the P1 remote. For temporary syncing, just go into the Home Menu and click Wii Remote Settings. Click on another option(it'll say to press 1 and 2) and follow the instructions.

Remote for 160gb hard-disk recorder has stopped working. Not a battery issue.

YOU CAN VERIFY THAT IT IS NOT WORKING BY RECORDINGTHE FREQUENCY WITH A CAMCORDER. To do this, you simply point the remote at the camcorders lens while recording and press buttons (with good batteries in the remote). Next, play back the recording and you will see the remotes output flashing if it is working....and of course, no flashes means the remote is dead. Remotesare pretty much useless to fix because it is cheper to replace them. You can look for the same remote on Ebay or go to Walmart to buy a Universal Remote that you can program.

Remote stops working

Your remote is going bad and the only solution is to buy another one or buy a universal but it will only let you use the basic functions like play, rew,ff , stop and on time recording, I don think it will let you program for recording it or use the menu,a new remote will cost almost as much as a new VCR.The universal is a very inexpensive option.
