greg, sounds like your needle valve is not seated. Remove the bottom drawer. Look back to the base of the burner where the shutter air adjustment is. Right under there is the valve which should have a 1/2 inch or 7/16 nut. (I Forgot what size). Turn this nut clockwise until the flame is adjusted to the correct size, should be a nice blue flame. The nut maybe hard to turn because you are seating the needle. Catriver..post back

I talked to Sears Customer Service (who seemed to have heard of the problem) and they gave me Kenmore's number. The

There is no recall for the oven, but the person on the phone told me there was a design enhancement / adjustment that would stop the condensation on the back panel. The person I spoke with at Kenmore said there was a related product bulletin SF22-727 (for model 79095412102), but that that was only available to the technicians.

However, once the back panel is melted/yellow -then I think it needs replacing and I think that part costs about 100 in addition to the design adjustment.

I decided it was cheaper to buy a newer (used) oven than have the vent fixed/panel replaced.

First, the flame should be blue and without much visible yellow. You need to give the gas tube a good cleaning to get out any soot buildup and any partial obstuctions that might be causing the problem. Since you started with a yellow flame and soot, you need to get the burner tubes clean to see if you have resolved the problem after adjusting the regulator and burner valve(s).

You might need to install a different regulator to match the pressure of your gas supply source, as regulators have a specific working range of inlet (supply gas pressure) that they can operate properly at to "regulate" the supply pressure to the stove's needed pressure.

Check your manual and the installation guide to verify what the gas inlet pressure requirements are and check with your gas supplier to see what they are providing you.

To your 2nd question, yes, the gas will cycle on and off when you are using the oven, since the thermostat will call for more heat when needed and shut off the gas/flame once the temperature you set the control at, has been reached. The cycling is a result of the oven trying to maintain the desired temperature for baking.

One reason that you can smell gas when the oven is being used, is because all gas ovens have a surface vent to allow excess heat to escape from the oven compartment, however you should not be smelling raw gas (actually you're smelling the "rotten egg" additive that's put in the gas) all the time, since when the oven is turned on, a small electric ignitor is heated up VERY HOT glowing bright orange inside the oven compartment. Once it's hot enough a sensor opens the gas valve and lets gas into the burner tube to be ignited instantly by the VERY HOT ignitor. It is rare to smell raw gas with this system, but sometimes you'll get a stronger "rotten egg" smell at different times due to the gas company and their system, etc.

As to the gas smell, you should NOT be smelling gas every time the oven cycles on when baking, as a normal ongoing occurrence. During the first few uses, it is normal to smell some gas, but this should go away after a couple of uses. If it doesn't, you should look to make sure the regulator and oven controls are PROPERLY configured and set - Since you've already fiddled with these, it's probably a good idea to have someone from your gas company (or a gas appliance tech) come out and do this. Improper settings can cause some serious problems.

According to Kenmore's list of error codes, F1 means EOC (Electronic Oven Control) failure, and the solution is to replace the EOC. You might look into that. The part itself costs around $80, as far as I can see.

It sounds like during the conversion process a step or two may have been missed.

The gas orifice for the main oven burner is most likely to large (was not converted to LP), or the air shutter on the burner was not adjusted. I would not use the oven with the flames that way.

There should be instructions with the installation instructions on how to convert the oven, basically on most oven burners the orifice is screwed down (tightened) until the flame is the right size, then the air shutter on the burner is adjusted for a blue flame.

My oven does not light , only the propane comes through , and i have to shut it down , does not get up to temp


Your glowbar ignitor part number 5303935066 must be replaced, Unplug the range and turn off the gas. Remove yje oven racks, The oven base pan. Then remove the flame spreader. You will see the glowbar ignitor attached to the side of the bake burner. Remove it and replace it with a new ignitor. Replace all the range parts.Turn on the power and turn on the gas supply.
The part is approximately $65 thru the Sears parts site.

Change over to LP on whirlpool oven


All ovens come from the factory set up for natural gas. To convert to liquip propane you must change the orifices. Once you have the proper orifices, you will be able to make the adjustment you desire. You can contact your lp supplier and have them send their techie out as they do this as a free service.

The southbend 436d range gives a yellow flame at the burners


Hello. Please advise if your unit is supposed to run on propane, at the bottom of the oven door is a smaller panel, depending on age, it either lifts slightly, and then folds down, or clearly has screws on the front. Your Model/rating plate is behind this, either on the back of the panel, a tag screwed to the frame, or on the bottom ledge of this area. It should state what gas the unit is meant for, propane or natural. If it was not converted to run on propane, or made to run on propane, this is your problem. If it was built/converted for propane I would suggest you contact your propane supplier, or a restaurant service company to look at it, it would require a few specialized tools, pressure testing, orifice size req., and burner BTU. to go much further than cleaning the dust out of the burner, and cleaning the orifice.

Kenmore gas range


You need to turn the orifice on the safety valve down (clockwise) and this will make the flame smaller. The orifice is what the burner for the oven sits on at the bottom.
