Hi, Am trying to reset a PhillipsMT2400 to factory defaults. I was not given a recovery CD from the retailer. There is a recovery partition on the hard disk, which I have no access to through explorer. How do I reset this PC to the factory defaults?

Enter Bios menu at start up hold F10 some computers differ and you may have to hold F9 or F2.
Once you reach the Bios menu it will give the option for restoring the operating system.

You need to get a Recovery CD for your model laptop from Dell. Boot up with this Recovery CD and follow the instructions.
You can get this Recovery CD from the Dell WEB site.
To get the correct model Recovery CD use the Service Tag number, it is on the label that is attached to the bottom of the laptop.

Hi
Please save any files or photo,s that you may have on your laptop ist

Then you could try this method without using the disks
Click Start" menu

Click Programs

Click Acer Recovery Management

Click the Restore button on the bottom of the dialog box that opens

Click Restore System to Factory Default

Click Yes in the warning dialog box which asks if you wish to continue the recovery process

Click yes Start to restore the computer to the default factory settings

Sometimes there is a default acer password which is quite often 000000 that is 6 zero's

or place the recovery disk into your cd

restart the laptop pressing F12 i believe

then follow on screen instructions

many thanks

please let us know if this has helped you so that we can hopefully help others

Factory reset

I think with acer u can use their erecovery management within windows /start/programs/Acer Recovery management/

or you can use the Alt+F10 or F11 at the start up some models vary and that hopefully should prompt u to reset the pc to factory settings, remember to back up you data, you might struggle with some drivers, and make sure you reinstall the security software that you prefer as soon as you are able to connect online. good luck hope this helps

I need to know how to reset my acer aspire 6930 to factory settings!!!!!

A slightly different model requires pressing Alt+F10 at the start up and following the prompts. This will wipe the hard drive though, so back up everything important first. You can probably still get the data even if it doesn't boot Windows.

I need to reset my acer aspire 5520 to factory settings without recovery discs

Hi,

There is a recovery console on your HDD (Hard Disk Drive) this is a hidden partition on your HDD. If you power on your laptop and hold the ALT key and keep tapping the F10 key while it posts to the acer logo screen it will goto a black screen with a flashing cursor on the top left then stop tapping F10 and remove your finger from the ALT key, you will then see windows loading files. This will take you to the recovery console and from there you can select restore laptop to factory defaults or restore laptop retaining user data.

Hope this helps

Hi Nishant,
I saw you post about the One Key Recovery on your S10-3 system and I would like to Help.
You mentioned that you have an S10-3 system and that it has Windows7 on it and that you want to install Windows XP on it.
I guess that can be possible as long as you do not delete / format the partition where the One Key Recovery is located your One Key Recovery can still be utilized once you may need to set the system back to factory defaults, the Partition where the One Key Recovery will sometimes be name Lenovo Recovery Partition and cannot be seen in windows since it is a hidden partition only seen when doing an installation of windows using a retail Windows Installation cd.
Just to add about the OKR or One Key Recovery once you downgrade to XP and you use the One Key Recovery it will restore the system back to factory defaults then windows7 will be the operating system again on your s10-3

Want to reset to Factory Default

Hi,

with HP the recovery console activation should just be F11 without the CTRL.

If your recovery partition does not work, or is corrupt/missing then your best bet is to either order the recovery discs or take it to a local tech that may have access to OEM discs that can be used with the license key on the machine to reinstall the operating system.
