are you wanting to change the tempature guage in the dash or the thermostat under the hood that goes to the guage in the dash? The guages raily go out, this is why I am asking. Also, iis this car a college beater or a nice keeper. Because if its the guage there are a couple of options. One being much cheaper and less work than the rest.

My 2001 Alero V6 temp gauge stuck on cold. I changed the water temperature sensor and it still did not go up when hot. I checked the plug with a volt meter and it was reading 5 volts so I knew that I had power going to the sensor. I ended up taking it to the dealer who reset the CPU and it works fine now. They did not charge me for the reset which was nice. Their normal charge would have been $75.00 to do this but we have been a good customer over the years. Hope this helps.

Why change temp gauge, unless need be, what is the problem? Thermostat is the cheapest way to start!

My cars heat gauge keeps going up to the hot section, but I don't think the car is actually overheating, I can't smell anything or hear the radiator boiling.

check the real value of the temperature sensor with a scan tool. Compare it withe the value in the gauge. It can be a defective temperature sensor or a damaged gauge...or else the car is really overheating

My saturn is overheating

If the gauge is normal, then what makes you think it overheats?
If you mean the radiator cap boils over, the cap could be defective?
There also could be so little fluid in the system that the gauge sensor is not in contact with the fluid, so can't read right.
You need to ensure the system is filled, and use a thermometer to ensure proper operating temperature.

2002 oldsmobile alero the temp gage shows hot but it is not hot

Simple fix, inspect the temperature sensor wire leads or replace sensor. It's located on the intake manifold by the thermostat housing. Good luck and keep me posted.

Temperture Gage

First of all, it doesn't sound like your thermostat is working correctly to keep good hot/warm air coming , so I would change that, or have it changed for better heating inside. If you lift the hood & look in front of your radiator, On the engine side, you'll see a fan attached to, or in front of the radiator. It won't come on until the coolant temperature gauge gets up to proper operating temperature. Without getting in to too much detail, have your thermostat changed, and my guess is everything else will start working as it should, and whoever does the work, should know enough to check the fan operation when they do the thermostat.
