By the sounds of it. Try gently prying the shift key off the keyboard. Pay attention to the spring. Clean with rubbing alcohol on que tip and you should be good to go.

Turning off my green keys on HP pavilion desktop keyboard?

Hi,

How to turn off Sticky Keys: disable the Ease of Access feature
Tip: use the Windows Ease of Access Center

How to turn off Sticky Keys: what are Sticky Keys and why turn them off?
Sticky Keys is a Windows Ease of Access feature that makes it possible to use keyboard shortcuts or type capital letters without needing to press more than one key at once. Normally, you'd hold down the Shift key while pressing a letter to type a capital, or hold down the Ctrl key while pressing 'S' to save a document. It's even trickier if you want to use a shortcut such as Ctrl-Alt-Del or Ctrl-Shift-Esc.

With Sticky Keys, you can press Ctrl, Shift or Alt, let go and then press another key - Windows will interpret this as pressing two keys together. You should also hear a beep if you have speakers connected.

That's great if you're disabled and can't press two keys at once, but what if you want to disable Sticky Keys?

How to turn off Sticky Keys in Windows 8
You can't press Shift another five times. Instead, you need to bring up the Start menu (or Start screen in Windows 8) by pressing the Windows key. Now type "ease of access" and click on Ease of Access in the list of results.

If you're using Windows 8, you need to click on the Ease of Access Keyboard settings result, and then it's a simple case of sliding the Sticky Keys toggle to 'off'.

If this does not help you. Let us know the below details to understand the issue bettery.

I can`t get any upper case functions to work on hp 2011 keyboard what key do i press

1.Make sure the "Caps Lock" key is not on. Though this will be obvious to most people, if your keyboard is typing in only upper-case letters it can't hurt to check. Look at the "Caps Lock" indicator light on the top right corner of your HP keyboard. If the light is on, strike the "Caps Lock" key on the left side of your keyboard. This will turn the "Caps Lock" off, allowing you to type in lower case letters again.

2.Make sure the "SHIFT" keys on your HP keyboard are not stuck. Dust and dirt can build up on a keyboard over time, which can cause certain keys to stick. If either of your keyboard's "SHIFT" keys get stuck, your computer will type in only capital letters. Use a toothpick or cotton swab to remove the gunk from the key, which should help it return to its normal position.

3.Unplug your HP keyboard and then plug it back it. This will remove the device from your operating system and then automatically add it back in. This can have the same effect, essentially, as restarting your computer. If your keyboard was typing in capital letters due to an error being stored in your operating system's memory, that error will now be cleared and the HP keyboard will function as normal again.

4.Update your HP keyboard driver. Click "Start" and then right click on "Computer." Click "Properties" and then "Device Manager." Right click on the listing for your keyboard and then click "Update Driver." This will update the computer software that is associated with your HP keyboard. If your keyboard was typing in all capital letters as a result of an error with this driver, the error will now be fixed and you can use your keyboard normally again

WHATS THE FN KEY DO AND HOW TO TURN IT OFF

The FN key gives you access to the controls that are usually circled on the regular keys like a shift gives you access to capital letters. it should require you to push and hold it down to activate it. If it is stuck in the down position your choices are limited to locating and clearing what ever it activating the key or replacing the keyboard.

Can't type anything without weird things happening the \'p\' prints,

hi, check that Sticky-keys arent turned on.

to toggle Sticky-keys on and off, press the shift key 5 times fast, then either Disable the sticky-keys tickbox, or click Settings for more configuration settings.

when sticky-keys are enabled, you can press shift and release, and the shift key is still enabled. this also goes for Alt, and CTRL.

so if it is enabled, pressing P will attempt to be Ctrl-P - which is print.

Cannot use letters of my laptop unless use fn key but not capital

You need to press the NumLock key to get the keyboard to get back to alphanumeric - it has a symbol of a lock with a number 1 on it. A LED should also go out/icon in your tool tray should disappear as well.

When i hold my shift button down it doesn't capitalize the letter...and then when i let go of the shift button and then type the second letter that letter is capitalized. this is supposed to happen when...

I called up logitech support and they said it isn't the keyboard that was messed up it says that the sticky keys were on which is a Microsoft feature. What you have to do is go to Start, Control Panel, Accessibility Options. When you get in there you go to the box that says Sticky Keys and go into Settings. Uncheck the boxes in the option box that say: Press modifier key twice to lock, and, Turn StickyKeys off if two keys are pressed at once. That worked for me and I am also running Windows XP.

Backspace doesnt work

in all likelihood your shift key is stuck. try pressing and releasing both shift keys in an attempt to "free" them. Also, check to ensure that "sticky keys" is not enabled on your computer(pressing and holding the shift key for about 10 seconds should pop up a window if it is. if the window appears, just make sure that the key is not "stuck" by windows).

Solution: mechanical agitation for your shift keys to attempt to free them, and a good thorough cleaning for all of your keyboard with canned air and/or a lint free cloth damp with dilluted isoprophyl alchohol to prevent this from happening in the future with these or other keys. Alternately, replace your keyboard.
