Question about Alesis MICRON Analog Modeling Synthesizer

1 Answer

Micron problem! I just purchased a used alesis micron. Unfortunately, when I plugged in my headphones and also when I plugged it into the amp, there was a low buzzing sound, but no sound came from pressing the keys. What should I do with it? I reset it to the factory programming, but it didn't help.

I used a standard quarter inch cable and plugged it into my usual amp that I use for my nord normally. The same buzzing sound came from using my headphones as well. I'm not sure what else there is to say. I did try resetting it.

When you plug in the headphones it cuts the sound to the speakers. Unplug headphones (they are probably broken if you can't hear them). Make sure you are using stereo plugs.

Make sure the SR16 is set to send the clock out. Read 6.6 of your user's manual.

SOURCE: have the alesis dm6

Two things:

Check that cables are seated, especially the one at the main module.

Second, look for a setting for "Local Control" in your user's manual; That setting should be "On" to accept the triggers from the pads.

SOURCE: Alesis DM6 electronic drum kit module sound

It appears that you have to select a "Kit" of drums when using the external triggers. It appears that the volume level for the kit and that for each voice MAY all have to be set, especially after new firmware download. Read manual about KIT volume level and selecting voice and volume level for those. Manual is NOT very clear about these things and you have to try them as this is where the probllem is.

SOURCE: Hi team! I've just bought an Alesis Q49

That is what you can use transpose for... Now the truth is revealed: What transpose does is JUST move the notes (including the black keys) up and down the keyboard... that is ALL transpose does... so if you transpose +1 when you hit C the keyboard emits C# and hitting C# emits D and hitting D emits D#, etc... Now with trsnspose set at -2, hitting C results in B flat being emitted and for instance hit a G at transpose -2 results in F being emitted... Simple isn't it? For MIDI all they do is add the transpose to the note number. Don't forget that the black keys are counted as well as the white ones.

Unfortunately, it's a design or manufacturing problem with all of these. If it's new enough return it and get a different make of amp.

It wont play thru my amp only headphones and no demos or preset patterns

Re-initalize the machine. If that doesn't work, it's time to take it to the shop. However, replaceing it may be more cost effective.

Yamaha CP 300 broken headphone jack

Some keyboards use the amp output sockets for headphone use.
You might need some adapters for your headphones.
If it fell in, you would see an empty hole. This would be unlikely because it is held on by two screws. If all fails, buy an amp with a headphone jack input. Plug the keyboard into the amp and use the amps jack.

You CANNOT use one of those universal adapters, period. The DM5 Alesis takes an AC output adapter. You need 9 VAC at 830ma or more. AC output adapters are hard to find and you are not the first to try a universal and find that they don't work! Here is one of MANY sources on Ebay:

Hello, I connect my headphones to the Alesis DM6. As result, i can listen my drumming, while i'm playing. But, the sound is not always good. Sometimes I hear, only on one side the music, or it is...

you have a bad cable (wire) or a bad jack (where you plug in your earphones) plug your output into another device (guitar amp for example) and see if the problem persists. if it does then it is most likely internal problems with the output jack. If this is the case you will have to take the unit apart to find out where the problem is. if you're not comfortable doing this then you will have to take the unit to someone who is.

If you have a direct out use that? You can also use the Headphone jack coming out. Make sure the volume on the DM is very low. And bring it up slowly.

Many of the LCD's for these are rather special and as such are pricey. I would ask Alesis directely for parts source... You will likely have to live with whatever their recommended source charges.

I just purchased an Alesis QS7 on eBay. Upon receiving

The unit needs to be repaired. Since it is a thermal problem, you can likely find the bad part with circuit cooler. See if the volume control affects the loudness of the howl... If it does, probably an op-amp in the preamp before the volume control is sick. If it doesn't affect it, then the output amps are suspect. Also check the power adapter.
