Samsung laptop, output speakers not working

Check you settings in two places for the correct audio out settings:

1. Look up under the System Preferences menu (the Apple pull down menu) the sound icon (looks like a speaker) and click on it to open it. At the top it will show three choices, Sound Effect, Output, Input. The problem you can't hear the Skype caller is likely the Output setting is incorrect. For example, you may have Line Out selected, but you are listing on head phones. Make the device name match what you are using to make sound.
Also check to see that the output volume is not set too low. Move the slider around to increase the volume.

2. Then check your Skype setting.Under Skype>preferences, select Auto/Video. Check to see what is selected under "Speakers: and check again to see the Volume is turned up high enough to hear.

Also make sure you have a good speaker or headphone connection.

You can check to see if you can hear by calling the Skype test call number to record yourself and listen to it. Go the www.skype.com/go/help for more information.

Are your speakers plugged in? Is your volume turned on? Try restarting your computer. Try wearing headphones. Make sure the other user has microphones plugged in and they are not muted. If you are wearing headphones, set it to the default device. If you not using headphones, set the system speakers to the default device. If you do not know how to this, google is your friend. You need to check your audio (sometimes called Sound on some systems) settings (under control panel on Windows or Settings on Mac).

Under input (or sometimes called sound recording), make sure the headset you are using is selected.

You might also try using the headset with another program to see if it will record your voice. (Audacity is free http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. You can download it and try recording on it.)

Get some headphones Acer in known for only 1 speaker

I assume you are using headphone for skype, but this test will work for speakers too. Open windows media player and try to play one of the pre-loaded songs. If you cant hear it check your computers volume controls (double click the speaker looking thing by the time clock, or access through control panel). Also check to make sure that the computer is not feeding the sound out through the digital output. This can be found by checking in control panel in the same place as your volume is. If it is feeding out to digital, change it to the analog output. Once you have sound with media player, you should have sound with Skype.

You may want to check your mic setup. Make sure that you can output sound. Make a test call if you can hear yourself in Skype or Yahoo. That way you can isolate who's having the problem. Is it your mic or their speakers.

Dear Esther M Shane, if you are having problems with hearing other skype contacts, please do next :

Check your output(speaker) volume, put it on maximal,

talk with your contact, advise him/her to volume up their output, or to possibly change their quality due to equivalent of your chat.

Its not really your fault if you cant heart their output very well, those people should check for problems with their imputs, ofcourse if you done all checkings I have told at the text up there.

The other side microphone may be muted or not selected. Or on your side speakers may not be selected on skype.
Selct "tools" on you skype menu, then select "options" at the bottom. A window should open. Slect "audio settings" on the left you should see selection for microphone and below it audio out setting select the coorect audio out from the pull doen menu or windows default.
You can now test your system by calling "skype test call" just belw that. If it works it is the other end.

uninstall the the skype and reinstall it back, that should work
