the problem I'm having with my xbox 360 is when I put a game in it, it reads and then says to put a game disc in like there isn't one in it, but there is, So far all I've done is put the game in and out, openning and closing the game. It started once and I played for a while but it started doing it again later.

Your laser/drive have gone bad. I would suggest contacting your local game stores to see if they do console repairs. If not then you would have to buy the drive/laser and install yourself, that or send it in to the dreaded Microsoft.

I have the same problem with the xbox 360 telling me to insert the game in the console.  It scratched two brand new games.  They are scratched so badly, I don't think they are repairable.  Does any one have any suggestions besides sending it in for repairs.  It has less then two hours of play on it.

I have the same issue with my 360,won't read 360 games but reads everything else. I already sent it in for this problem before and it was fine for awhile, but it's doing same thing again. only solution is to send it back for repair or have hard drive replaced (which will void warranty)

I am on the phone with support as i type this. I had the same problem where it would play the games if i worked at it. but it got worse and now nothing works on it. It is an issue that needs to be sent in when it gets to the point that mine is at. You might be ok messing with it in frustration. i would check to see if it is under warrenty. 360 support number: 800-469-9269

Do you have one of those play and charge cords plugged into one of your controllers while you are playing for an extended period of time? I ran into the same problem with my 360 continuing to run after I turned it off. If you unplug that cord from your controller the 360 will power down. It works for me. I do not however know the answer to the unreadable disc problem. My 360 just developed the same issue...Mine will read dvds and it even played my orginal xbox version of Halo, but doesn't read any of my 360 games including my brand new games that worked just prior to this problem arising. I have been looking around in message boards for a solution so I don't have to send my xbox 360 in for repairs. So far, nothing.

My xbox is not reading any of my discs. it just reads open tray. when we close it again it says reading and then goes back to open tray. can you help?

Hi,the most common reason for the Games not reading discs is a bad drive. The following website sells the drives and does installs:

store.richspsxparts.com/wiiredvddr

This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your games, or issues inserting your games or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your game including a new laser. If your discs are not ejecting, or you cannot insert a disc -- or you can insert a disc but it will not load, this is what you need to get your game going again!

Take care.

The console reads ALL discs as DVD's including game disks

Basically our question is not clear ..
It seems that you cannot play the games or when you insert the discs it reads them as DVD's

Game discs and consoles are made for specific countries and regions. If you try to play a game disc that is made for a specific country or region on a console that is made for another country or region, the game disc does not play.

The console thinks the disk is a movie and displays play and pause and chinese looking letters appear on the screen. It won't allow me to do anything

The problem you are facing is of a copied Xbox 360 game you are probably trying to play on a Genuine Xbox 360, these discs are read as a movie disk and it shows as "Play DVD".

When you try to play such discs, it would give you dvd media control bar on the bottom and the message in chinese letters is actually a message asking you to insert this disc in a Xbox 360, which is actually a Modded Xbox 360 that is required

Message attempting to read disc

If your DVD drive is not reading discs this is because of the sensors on the back of the drive taking a hammering of heat.

You will need to get it repaired and you can do this yourself or sending it back.

Xbox 360 not reading discs

This is going to be a bit long -- but very detailed, so please read it carefully. There are several reasons that an xbox 360 system will have problem reading discs. The error messages also vary from unreadable disk, no message at all but the game skips, "please insert disc in a 360 console" to "open tray." There are a few reasons this may happen:

1. Bad disc. Check the back of your disc for scratches. If it looks good (or plays fine in another console), then the disc is probably fine. Also-- try more than 1 game to be sure.

2. Bad laser. The XBox 360 has a DVD drive very similar to a PC's DVD drive inside. The drive contains a bunch of parts including a few motors and gears and a laser. The laser is the part that actually reads the disc. The reality is... with all the hours and hours of gameplay, lasers do eventually wear out. The laser isn't very easy to replace, but it is replaceable. You can find any and all XBox 360 lasers at the following website:

http://store.richspsxparts.com/xb360ac.html

3. Bad DVD Drive. Sometimes other components inside of the DVD drive can become bad such as the motor that spins the disk, the motors that open the tray, etc, etc. You can get a new DVD drive to just replace everything, including the laser, in one shot but there is a catch. The XBOX 360's DVD drive is tied to the motherboard using a software lock. The easiest way to overcome this lock is to buy the exact same manufacture DVD drive that is in your system now, remove the circuit board from the old DVD drive (which contains the software key) and transfer the circuit board into the new DVD drive that you purchase. If you do this simple procedure, there is no flashing involved. The following website carries DVD drives and also provides instructions on swapping the circuit board from the old drive into the new one.

360 reads one game as a dvd

this problem occurs in certain games, keep inserting the game or take back to the rental company, as it has an error on the disc, especially if you know that other discs are read alright by the 360.
