Your driver has a damaged voice coil, you can either find a speaker repairer to replace the voice coil or find a replacement driver to fit.

If you haven't done already, then verify that zone 2 works without the selector. If the speakers definitely work and the zone output definitely works then the speaker selector must be the culprit! It's pretty difficult to mess up the wiring with speakers, as even if polarity is reversed, you will still hear something.

take one of the front speakers out and pull out the head unit and unplug a set of audio wires(front right, front left ect.) and hook it up directly from the radio to the speaker there for bypassing all the cars wires. If it works then there's a problem with the car's wiring(maybe an inline amp). If it doesn't work, then try a known good speaker from somewhere else(home stereo speaker for example) and connect it to the radio, if the speaker works, your radio is fine and there may be a problem with the speakers. If it doesn't work then you have a problem with the head unit.

Hello
Check its audio settings. If the 'balance' control is at its one extreme, one speaker of that side son't work. When you select 'tuner' the the set sutomatically goes to 'Mono' [according to selection]; and both speaker will work. Check if stereo option is activated in its audio option first. If not, select it to stereo, dolby digital or so what you want ot hear. If all selections are OK, and still the problem perists, its digital processing section should be troubleshooted. Actually this is not a user repairable option. Contact any experienced service personel or Panasonic Authorised Service Center at your town. OK.

Decibels correspond to the output voltage being sent to the speakers. In your case, the voltage is reached at -40dB is the threshold that causes whatever is happening to operate the receiver's protection circuit. You might have a bad speaker, with a voice coil that shorts at the higher voltage. Below that level it's okay, but at the magic point the insulation breaks down, and that's when the receiver sees trouble.

You might try connecting only one speaker at a time using a short length of wire other than your current ones. If the trouble occurs on one speaker only, you've found the culprit. If the receiver operates normally on each speaker, try reconnecting one speaker at a time to determine if one of the speaker wires may have a short somewhere. There might be a weak spot in the insulation, not causing any trouble until the voltage is high enough.

If the receiver still goes into protection with just one speaker, there's an internal problem. Some part in the amplifier may be breaking down at that voltage. Or a part value has changed, causing the protection circuit to kick in even though there's really nothing wrong. Bad solder connections may have developed. Unfortunately, this kind of problem usually needs the services of a shop with the equipment and circuit information to figure out what's happening. If you can find a Yamaha-authorized warranty servicer, they might already know some typical causes if they've seen units with the same trouble.

Try the speaker test first. Then let a shop tackle the receiver if it looks like that's where the fault is. Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!

Can't get the speakers to work?

Have you bought them new? Try using an mp3 player to test them. If they're working fine with another device, the problem is your main device, the computer or else.
If it's a computer, try reinstalling your audio drivers, better do it in the safe mode.
If it's just another mp3 player or a similar small device, try using that device with another speaker or headphone to find out, whether it's the speakers, that's causing the problem or not.
If the speakers are not working, return them to the place you bought them.
