The piston crown will have an arrow on it if you clean the carbon off, the arrow always goes towards the exhaust port which puts the ring peg at the inlet.

It is a full strip down, the cylinder makes up part of the crankcase and sandwiches the crank and main bearings, it is not a job for an amatuer, i can try to go through it if you wish to carry on with it.

I'm replacing piston ring on husqvarna model 240 chainsaw. I would like to know if bevel edge on ring ends face up or down on piston

Most 2 cycles have a pin in the piston groove that keeps the ring from traveling. The pin location (upper groove, lower groove position) will give you the indication. Most 2 cycle rings have an L shaped cut in the very end that mates with the pin in the groove. Otherwise the piston/ring assembly will not fit into the cylinder.

How to un-sieze a chainsaw.

basically you need to strip it down, remove the cylinder off the piston, then remove the piston itself. Replace both. Hot seizes tend to damage more than just the rings, they score both piston and barrel. Its not a small job so if in doubt, take it to someone who knows what they're doing.

Where to find piston ring?

Is it just the piston ring? If so you may be able to substitute a ring from some other manufacturer. If you do go this route then be aware that you may have to set the end gap on the piston ring.

Never twist the piston ring. Pull it straight apart. This will insure the ring will seat properly.

The piston ring opening should have a spot on the piston with a little nub to align it. If it doesn't then just make sure the ring openings do not line up together. As for putting the piston in, there should be a mark on the top that will go toward the exhaust side

I am looking for a workshop manual for an 029I am want to fit new rings to it and check out the oil pump. It seems to be not pumping enough oil.

The adjusting screw is underneath the saw. You shouldn't monkey with the rings unless you know what you're doing and if you know enough to change rings, then why would you need the manual? Are you looking for part numbers for the rings? The upper ring is 1118 034 3001 and the lower one is 1113 034 3006. DO NOT GET THEM MIXED UP! You will destroy the engine REAL quick.
