Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop

Dell dimension 3000 won't see wireless network

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with a Truemobile 1300 USB 2.0 WLAN card running XP Home Service Pack 2, used as a family computer.

It's run happily with our wireless router (Zyxel prestige 650 HW-31) for years using the Dell wireless USB adaptor.

We recently bought a new PC for my son - a Packard Bell running Windows Vista but it would not link with the router so after trying various fixes (new firmware) with no success we bought a new router - a Belkin N-Mimo - P58721uk. All is well except now the Dell isn't seeing the network at all. I've tried all the usual stuff such as seaching wireless networks. It can see our neighbours' secure network but not ours. Connecting the Dell to the Belkin with in ethernet cable seems to achieve a good connection speed 100Mbps but no activity at all. Under "status" it just says "Acquiring Network Address"

I've tried downloading updated Service Pack 2 updates from Microsoft. Again no success.

Any ideas?

Hi, I've jst been looking on the web at the Mimo routers, you may find this article interesting, it may help even though its a couple of years old?

http://www.behardware.com/articles/614-2/wi-fi-mimo.html

Pay attention to part about 802.11n compatibility?
Perhaps try changing the IEEE standard on the router to 802.11g in the set up pages, as it may be set at 802.11n, which your older wireless card will not see.

As to the acquiring ip address message, try using a static ip address, here's a good guide:-

Maybe this will help?

Is the ethernet card on dimension 3000 dell alone or part of the motherboard

Hi,

Since around 1998 all motherboards come with the LAN (network/ethernet) on board.
The port will be at the back of the Dell next to the USB ports, you can't miss it.

Regards.

I have a wireless card in my Dell Dimension

The first thing I would try would be to reset the card, by removing the cover (if you are comfortable), removing the card from the slot and reinserting in the slot or moving the card to another slot (if there is an identical slot). If that doesn't work, replace the wireless card either with another wireless card or a USB wireless network adapter (external adapter that connects to a USB port). Good luck.

Wireless router with dimension 3000

It seems that you have Dell Desktop computer, unless you requested a wireless card to be put into the computer, it would not come with one. Just like stang_1 mentioned, you should check your network adapters to see if your wireless card is listed. Also since it is a desktop, you can check the back of it to see if you have an Antenna sticking out of it. That would indicate that you have a wireless card on the PCI slot. And if that is the case and you do not see it listed in the network connections, check the Device Manager and make sure that the drivers are installed properly.

contact Comcast and have them reset your IP address. also have them ping your modem after they reset IP.
Also, see Linksys website for LELA (easylink advisor) to add devices to network. Uses a good bit of memory so don't allow to run automatically at start up.

I have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop. I had no problems connecting to the wireless network. I restarted my computer and i hav not been able to get on the network since. I a running windows xp home edition...

What you want to do is run System Restore prior to the day you restarted your computer.  Depending on your Service Pack 1or 2, you'll find System Restore by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.  If your Service Pack 3 then you'll find it by going to the Help and Support Center, and clicking on undo changes to your computer with System Restore.  Once it's restored, it should bring back your access to the wireless router/network.
