Side by side not making ice

Everytime we pull out the ice cube bucket to fill our cooler the ice maker stops working. We flip the on/off button and it usually starts making ice again within hours, but this time it's been days.

Valve is probably frozen preventing supply water into ice maker. turn ref off for about 12 hrs to allow the supply line to defrost. turn on and see if it solved the problem. if not, the valve itself may be defective.

Whirlpool model # ed5vhexvq1 side by side ...ice maker will not dispense ice..water works but it sounds as if there is no power going to icemaker from dispenser

Does the icemaker bucket has ice cubes. If yes then your problem is in the dispensor. If no ice cubes on the icemaker bucket then your problem is with the ice maker unit.

Let say Ice cubes on the ice maker bucket and dispensor makes noise when pressing for ice cubes. Then either your ice dispensor flapper is frozen or may be ice cubes in bucket may have defrost and frozen again sticking together.

Why does my new ice maker only make a few cubes?

I don't think your ice maker was the issue sounds like it's not cold enough to make ice in your freezer get a thermostat and see if you are maintaining temps between 0-10F if not you are slowly losing freon somewhere

We emptied ice bucket to fill cooler. Now all we get is crushed ice and not cubes. I can switch buttons from crushed to cubes but still get crushed. Did we do something wrong when I pulled out ice bucket...

There is a metal rod under the ice bucket. This rod sticks out from the back of the bucket. Where it inserts into the ice shelf, you will see a small square hole. This is what changes it from crushed to cubed. It is an actuator that moves the rod to allow cubes to come out. Stick a screwdriver into the square hole and move the actuator up and down. Then reinsert the ice-bucket and that should fix the problem. Hope this helps.

Ice crusher not crushing

Almost everytime I encounter this its the actuator on the solenoid sticking. Check this out, Pull the ice bucket out and you will see a rod on the lower back. This is what flips up and down to engage the crushing mechanism. Where this rod connects in the freezer is where this solenoid is. Try this, Open the freezer and with the ice bucket out hit the ice button, both for crushed and cubed ice while watching the solenoid. You should see it engage and move up and down along with an unmistakable thud. Some times all thats needed is to loosen the 2 mounting screws and realign the plunger. The normal resting place for the plunger is in the down position. I've also seen the plastic break on the plunger.
Theres also the possibility ice is jambed up, I've seen the bucket put in improperly, the solenoid itself could be bad, Or the control board tho unlikely. 95% of the time its a stuck solenoid. Hope this helps!

Ice maker problems

If the ice bucket is over filling there may be a problem with the ice maker as this should stop making ice when the bucket is full. The ice in the bucket can freeze together just due to the weight of ice cubes . I suggest you check the ice within the bucket is all broken up and not frozen into big lumps

Frididaire Gallery series side by side with ice and water in the door

First pull out the ice bucket and close the door.  Set for cubed ice.  Press the button for ice to come out and listen for a loud clunk noise.  That is the sound of the solenoid.  You can open the door, hold the light switch and press the button and watch for the solenoid moving up and down.  Solenoid is at the back of the freezer in a little square opening where the rod on the ice bucket goes into.  If that solenoid is moving ok then put the bucket back in while the solenoid is in the down position and cubes should work.  If solenoid is not working then it will need to be replaced.  Let me know what you find.

Crushed ice only

Behind the ice bucket is a metal housing that holds the auger motor and solenoid.  The solenoid is bad.  When you go for cubed ice that solenoid should pull up the metal rod on the ice bucket so full cubes will come out.  First check to make sure the metal rod on the ice bucket isn't somehow caught under the solenoid and not letting if move up and down.  You can take out the ice bucket and press for cubed ice.  You should hear a loud clunk noise.  If not then you know the solenoid is not working.

Whirlpool gd5shaxkqoo side by side ice maker

Hi. It takes approximatly 3 days to fill the ice container. If it is filling it half way, it should fill it all the way. There is no reason for it to stop making ice unless a cube gets stuck occasionally. Try replacing the water filter. If you are using reverse osmosis to filter your refrigerator water then that is your problem. Refrigerator ice makers don't work well with most reverse osmosis systems. Good luck, Mack
