T23 Thinkpad turns off during boot after restart

I have a Thinkpad T23 and when I restart the laptop, it will turn off half way through the boot. Same thing happens if I try to reboot immediately. If I wait 20 minutes and then reboot, it will work.
Although not as often, it will sometimes turn off serveral minutes after boot.

Any idea what is going on?

My guess would be ;-
A power supply problem with the battery and/or power adapter
The most likely one.
The CPU is overheating and shutting down and if you wait a while and it will power it up again, it will then run for a while and shut down again.
This can be caused by a faulty fan (its not spinning and needs to be replaced) or the vents are clogged with dust (needs to be cleaned and you may need to remove the fan assembly to do this).

If your trying to reinstall a new copy of Windows in your computer then first thing you need to do is change the Boot sequence of your computer so it will load the Windows CD you inserted then it will run the set up.

To change Boot sequence:
1. Go to BIOS - Press F1 or F2 (depends on model of your computer) immediately after you turn you computer on
2. Go to Boot Menu on the top of the window
3. Change your Boot priority - make sure your dvd drive is your first or primary boot.
4. Press F10 to save and exit.

Make sure you have your Windows CD inserted before pressing F10 coz your computer will restart and will loadautomatically load and run the Windows Setup

Note: If a message "Press any key to boot from CD" appear on a black screen press any key to start the set up

Your Feedback is greatly appreacited.

Hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FIXYA.

Ibm thinkpad t23, will not come out of sleep mode even when manually turned off and on. Cooling fan comes on, only blank screen.. I have removed battery and let it sit for a while, and then restarted it,...

Please press F8 at boot up and boot in safe mode. Restore to a previous date given in bold numerals.
Alternatively, after F8 select Last Good Boot up.

Hello, I have a thinkpad T23 which usually clicks whenever I try to boot it and it doesn't start.

It sounds like you might have a bad or going bad HD. Try to put your ear near the HD when you turn it on and see if it sounds like it is coming from there. If you have valuable info on it I would immediately stop doing anything else with it and bring your HD into a repair shop and ask them to try to back it up. After that you will need to get a new one....if that is the problem. It could be a BIOS issue also but I don't know as much about that.

My companies G41 ThinkPad will not boot up

remove and put back the Ram memory ...also try to move the screen cause sometimes it has some positions in which will not work ....also remove battery and put it back to make it boot again ...
if it is not a case of the bad contact on the lcd...its a blocked looping boot ..and the real thing to solve will be to remove the bios battery for to make it see the ram memory again ...but it will do if you remove its adapter and battery to make it turn off..and after that try to boot .....if it shows anything on screen press f2 immediately to go to bios settings and here restore defaults by pressing f9 and than f10 to save changes....reboot after ..

Thinkpad t23 won't turn on, power button doesn't work, battery charges, tried everything. I stuck a mini pci wifi card in it and installed it then turn it off to restart, it wouldn't boot. I stuck it on...

Try making sure your keyboard in plug in nice and tight.
If it is, then consider replacing that first. I bought a used one on Ebay and that fixed my powering up problem. The power button wore out.
Good luck!

Problem

If you can boot to safe mode, try doing a restore.

When you turn on the system, just past the POST (before windows loads), hit the F8 key to get the menu between normal boot and safe mode.

When prompted, select SAFE MODE. Don't select safe mode with command prompt, or with networking. Just SAFE MODE.

Use the arrow keys to select SAFE MODE. If you need to log in, do so and proceed to launch windows.

Windows should launch in Safe mode. If it does, proceed to click on START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, SYSTEM RESTORE.

Select RESTORE MY COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME. Click on NEXT. If you can, select a BOLD date preferably before your issue. Click NEXT. System will load some files, reboot and reload.

If you can't get to safe mode, there may be other problems holding your system up. Did you load anything prior to the messages?

T23 wont boot

I would unplug it and remove the battery. Plug it back in and try without battery, if it still doesn't work, unplug the power again and remove the memory (RAM). Plug it back in and try again without RAM, if it beeps then the motherboard is probably good. If you had more than one piece of RAM, try one at a time and see if you get it to boot with one of them.
