Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP C6180 AIO won't print in black with new HP catridge. Colors ok

OS is Windows XP SP3. Have cleaned all contacts several times. Have tried HP Tech support to no avail. Did have non-HP black cartridge installed for a while. Have reloaded driver several times but does not help with this problem.

    it uses the colors to print black and sucks up the ink, but will not print from the black cartridge, I've tried 3 different cartridges.

    Can't print in black since the April 1st. Both from Photosmart c6180 and from c5180.They print in Color ok. OS is Windows XP SP3. Have changed black catrige 3 times from 3 different shops. Have tried all tests and HP Tech support. After all test we did together one more time they advice me to replace the printers paying the 80% of their value... both machines are located in diferent places so it has nothing to do with power. Both was working fine till the March 31st. it seems that the printers "expired" on april 1st...

    All colors will print fine but the black photo ink. I just replaced the ink and this didn't happen before.

Disconnectthe printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd doboth and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printerto the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.

Black printer ink not working as well at 100%


There are several possible issues with the refilled cartridges. Nozzle clogging; dirty contacts; static electricity transfered from your bare hands to contacts on cartridge damaging the circuitry; and more.

Clean the contacts on the cartridge using a pencil eraser. If that doesn't help, you should get a new cartridge and see if it fixes the problem.

HP won't print black, but other colors work. New refill kit...


I purchased a c6180 in Jan 09 have just got the black working fine. After pulling the nachine apart, thinking maybe to soak the head, found micro pump for ink air in black line Run copy black only (took maybe 12x25 times) then head clean Try head clean after 50 copies Voila! Black Cannot rule out that reseating all connections helped

HP Photosmart C6180 colors no good - missing colors & muted. No longer aligns print when requested, per HP note at end. Already cleaned print heads,[OK], aligned printer numerous times-doesn't work....


try resetting the printer using the # and the number 6 buttons,holding them down and then inserting the power cord at the back of the printer.
see if it works.

HP C6180 won't print borderless photos


Also had ongoing problem of paper jams printing PDF files, but not when printing any other files. Solved both problems by uninstalling and reinstalling printer driver.

Hi Jack,

What I understand from your message is that, when you try to print from the computer, you are receiving a message "No black ink supply"...


Solution: If you have installed the full featured AIO software on your computer, then open the HP solution Center on your computer, then click on the settings>> print settings>> Printer toolbox.

Then click on the Configuration Tab and uncheck the option "Display the ink level message". Then click on the Device tab and try to print a Diagnostic page and then click Ok to close the solution center. Then resart the computer and try printing..


I am pretty sure this will resolve the issue..

H/P C6180 black not printing


Had the same problem for weeks. Had to go thru all three levels of print head cleaning in the HP Toolbox menu to get black to work again. The head cleaning option on the printer itself was insufficient. Unless you've already gone thru all three cleaning levels this may be worth a try.

I walked thru the steps via the HP website FAQs for the 6180. Basically: Open the HP Solution Center, select Settings->Print Settings->Printer Toolbox, then click Clean the Printheads. After the first cleaning you'll be asked if the test page printed OK (mine didn't), click the Intermediate Cleaning box. You'll be asked again if the test page printed OK (mine did, but an independent MSWord print test was still streaky), click the clean again (sorry, don't remember what this one was called) for the third and deepest clean.

This last one worked for me, now it's back to normal printing. From what the HP website says I'm guessing that my black print head was dried up. That's a reasonable explanation for my situation, we had let the black sit dormant for a couple of weeks after the black cartridge ran out before we tried to install a replacement.

HP Photosmart C6100 All-In-One Printer stopped printing black ink


Please clean the print heads :

Press Setup up - Tools - Clean Print heads on the All-in-One.

If this does not resolve the issue , Reset the All-in-One.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold OK and HELP buttons while plugging in the power cord.

If issue stil persists. Contact HP.
