Question about Dishwashers

Pump gasket appears moldy. Should I clean, or just replace? Is this easy?

I'm not entirely certain what I'm looking at, but a schematic I found online makes me believe it's a pump gasket. Here's a picture of the gasket itself: http://imgur.com/1wtDOtI If I should replace, do I have to disassemble or remove the entire pump?

Sorry, I included it in the description, but the website couldn't find the info, so it was apparently discarded. It's a Maytag Performa, Model#PDB2600AWE

I had a problem that seems to be related, but it came out that the pump was blocked. I had service to open and remove a small plastic clip that had came into the machine accidently. I do not recognize that water was pumped back as you explain but if the water is not emptied may be this is the result...

SOURCE: pump disassembly

I removed the impeller on my DW761UQB. The instructions were molded into the plastic pump housing. This is how I DID MINE: Remove motor mount screws. Remove the chopper screw (screw only goes into impeller, not motor shaft). Remove chopper and rotate/remove strainer. Place socket or wrench on impeller tip and place another wrench on rear of motor's plastic fan. Unscrew fan from impeller shaft ( threads are LEFT handed, turn CW). Once fan is 'backed off' of the impeller, CAREFULLY pry the motor/fan from pump housing (impeller is attached to motor shaft via splines). Don't crack the delicate plastic pump housing. Mine was stuck, but separated with moderate force. Now remove the impeller/seals from the pump housing. This worked for MY above mentioned model, I don't know what other models it applies to. I am not a pro.

Door gasket is black looks moldy?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I see that the door gasket on your Frigidaire Affinity washer, model# ATF7000ES, is black and looks moldy. It because the mildew is not just on the gasket, but it is in the tub and in the pump and discharge hose as well. You need to reduce/eliminate the mildew in those parts. There are a couple of things you should do to reduce the causes of mildew.

1. Run the machine once a month, using liquid bleach, on the clean-tub cycle to clean out the machine. You might need to repeat this a few times to completely clean out your machine.

2. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the about and type of laundry detergent to use with your wash. Using too much detergent causes a buildup of detergent on the tub which encourages mildew growth.

3. After your final wash of the day, leave the door and laundry detergent open, wipe dry the gasket with a cloth.

I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your refrigerator status has changed successfully.

-Best Regards-
WP

Is it expensive to replace the fuel pump

Look up the cost of a fuel pump on the internet

Rock Auto.Com -- has brand name parts & better
prices than your local parts store

If you don't install yourself, you have to add a few hours
of labor.

The pump is about $50 to $60.00
The entire assy with tubing,if that is rusted away,
is about $170.00

Other than draining & dropping the fuel tank,it is any easy job

Where is the waterpump location on a 2004 jaguar x-type 3.0 liter?

First take the top of the battery housing off. Then unbolt the battery hold down and the battery wires (with a 10mm socket) and remove the battery and set it aside. Also make certain to also set aside the bolts that tie down the battery. Now the rest of the housing for the battery will lift right out. As you take it out, make note as to where the vent tube that was connected to the battery goes. There is also a small wire block hooked to the battery housing.

With the battery out you now have completely exposed the water pump. First remove the three bolts holding down the large black pulley with your 8mm socket. Take the pulley, belt and bolts and set them aside (I like putting the bolts back in their holes for safe keeping). Now with the 8mm socket, remove all 8 of the bolts holding the water pump in place. (I'm taking into consideration that the fluid has already been drained or has run out). Remove the water pump and the gasket. Wash out the cavity of any particles and be certain the surface is clean.

Replace the gasket and the water pump. Some people use a gasket cement I prefer not to and replace it dry. Then put back the 8 bolts and hand tighten them in their appropriate location (there are 2 long bolts). Now tighten the bolts down using the opposite tightening technique. Do not over tighten. Spin the water pump to be certain it spins freely. Clean up the area wiping up any grease or left over fluid. Replace the belt and the large pulley. Then replace the battery.

Refill the antifreeze with the appropriate type of antifreeze (refer to your owners manual). Start up the car to make certain all is working.

Now you're ready to drive in style.

Good luck.

Water not draining from washer. cannot open door. isnt there just a spin cycle i could go to instead of the entire wash cycle? i have already put it through 2 more cycles hoping the spin would drain...

Hi lauraeuschwa,

I believe your drain pump filter is just clogged. The drain pump is trying to pump the water out before the Spin cycle, but can't. Usually this is caused by a foreign object that is obstructing the impeller. See my tip on how to access, drain & clean the Drain Pump Filter:

ACCESS, DRAIN & CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER

After this, the Spin cycle will run, after the drainage procedure. If it does not, then you may need to replace the Drain Motor. Which is a easy task.

Kind Regards :-)

1998 cadillac deville: I have replaced the water pump, thermostat and all gaskets. It looks like water is leaking between water pump housing and block. Any sugestions or advise on repairing?

If your sure the seal on the water pump is good, I would suggest go to the auto parts store and buying a new water pump gasket. Sorry to tell you this, but take the pump off again. When you have removed the pump, scrape and clean both the engine block at the pump housing, and the pump back to shiny metal( this happened to me a couple of years ago, rushed the job, and gasket was not properly seated). Now that both are clean, put a thin coat of gasket sealant on the pump, and put the gasket on. Apply some sealant to the block housing.Put two bolts(across from each other) in the pump housing before installing(to keep the gasket lined up) and reinstall the pump. Give it a couple of hours for the sealant to set up, then give it a try. don't forget to top the fluids. I think you just pinched the gasket( happens all the time), and is giving the fluid a gap to leak. try this, and let me know

Lets get started.

(1)Get your car up on stands or ramps block rear tires.

(2)Drain oil & remove oil filter remove battery cable NEG (-)

I need to replace a water pump

good news / bad news

the good news is its a pretty simple job
the bad news is that some of the bolts have a tendancy to break making and easy job a pain in the ****

if you cannot find a shop that will do the job for less than $200 then seek out a high school or college that has an automotive program

most are always looking for work and "IF" they charge anything its CHEAP!!!
