Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

Open Question

My memorex dvd player won't turn off manually and is stuck on "hello."

Whenever I turn the power on, my dvd recorder just says hello. Nothing else works-remote, buttons on machine, etc. Unit has not even 3 months of use (but was purchased over a year ago-needed a "kid" to set it up.) How can I remedy this? Thanks... I have a JVC DVD/VCR player. It does the same thing. The only way I've been able to solve this is by unplugging the unit, then when I replug it, I go in, reset the time and then I can turn the unit off or set it to timer. But this happens again and again and I must do the procedure I just described each time it freezes.

Does anyone know of a better way or another more permanent solution?

SOURCE: Unit totally locked up

I called the secondary 800# as the number in the manual has a recording for "if you are calling about the drc8335 call 877-805-0519" how bout it? A separate number just for this unit?

The guy said to unplug the unit for at least 30 MINUTES & that I would have to rescan in all the channels I have spent alot of time scanning in by rotation of the antenna. Geezzz I wish I had returned it to the store before the 90days were up... (price has dropped below $150 was 219 last year?)

SOURCE: Panasonic dvd/vcr DMR-EZ47V model.Code OOOOOO keeps going across.

You must manually hold in the on/off button on the machine itself (NOT on the remote) for approximately 30 seconds. This will shut the unit off. Then you can restart it.

SOURCE: Can't get my new DVD/VCR to work.

I read the instruction manual one more time. It said to tune my TV to Video and voila, the VCR worked. All JVC VCR's seem to need the tv tuned to Video to play back. I had an older JVC VCR and I had to do the same thing with it.
Thanks anyway.

SOURCE: Unit just gets stuck at Hello sign.

You have a blown capacitor in your machine. If you are good with a soldering iron, great, you can fix it yourself. Otherwise, find a friend who is good with a soldering iron. Parts should cost you less than $2 for a new capacitor. Replaced the blown capacitor in my machine, and my tape popped out with no fuss once I powered the system back up.

Hello K4, hi you can manually get the disk out, but you need to remove the cover. As for the power thing, you have a power supply problem, would you like to service it yourself or call a technician, If you will service it yourself, this are the things you should check:
  1. fuse
  2. open wirings
  3. shorted or over heating rectifier diodes and voltage regulator
  4. bulging filter capacitors
  5. Switching regulator IC, check for the output pulse using a scope.
  6. replace the bad parts, then test.

sounds like the power supply isnide your DVD player is your problem. if its really old then may be worth upgrading as the cost of repair may well be more than a replacement player.
You will need to continue using your Modulator with the new DVD player but DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RETUNE YOUR TELEVISION - IT IS NOT NECESSARY. Just plug the new DVD player in place of your old one

My Memorex DVD player will not open or come on

I just fixed a Memorex 2042 DVD player. Before the fix, the standby light was lit, nothing else works (with remote or buttons on the player panel). Opened up the machine, saw a capacitor bulged (1000uf/10v). Did some soldering work and replaced it. All is fine now.

Interface error! Trun off the power

Okay...sounds like you have a lot of signal splitting as well as devices that may also weaken your signal. With digital cable, you won't see snow or what would be a dead give-away to a weak signal. Only analog signals do that. Digital signals give you crisp clear picture or they drop out.

Try taking the cable directly from the wall to the DVD-Recorder. If you are able to watch channels and manipulate the device, then you can start from there as the source is good and the recorder is good.

Try to place the DVD-Recorder after the first splitter and see if you still receive stable signal. You'll probably need to leave the unit in this part of your A/V chain.

It really sounds like you need a signal amplifier for all the splitting you've done, or to re-work your A/V stack into something more manageable. It is entirely possible that the built-in tuner of the new DVD-Recorder is not as sensitive as the old unit.

Here's the link to the manual; http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=RDRGX315 check page 67 - it sounds like your discs need to be finalised before you can read them elsewhere Hope this helps, if you dont find what you need please ask again :)
