Unit keeps looping between "Pre booting", "Booting" and "Loading software". I confess I've never deleted the many addresses I've punched into it; I wasn't provided with detailed instructions when I bought the unit at a store that is now out of business. Please help .. !

Re: Garmin Nuvi 350 - Keeps looping
First try to reset the unit by removing the battery. If it loads fine, you need to update the firmware of the device. Download the latest firmware from garmin website. If there's no update, you can just re-flash or reload the current firmware by downloading the same firmware version.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Connect the unit up to a PC and try deleting some of the unused text-to- speech (TTS) voices. Keep only the ones that you need. Delete any unused photos or MP3's...and also any unused vehicle icons on the unit. When the unit is booting, it loads in all of the vehicle icons allowing you to change the selected vehicle, so this too uses up valuable memory.
a rebooting unit will most likely not be resolved by a reset. The problem is usually caused by a failed firmware or map upgrade. When the unit boots and can not find certain files or they are corrupted, the unit crashes. The unit must be flashed with a service firmware to gain access to the units flash drive so that the corrupted files can be replaced. Once access to the flash drive is obtained, the favorites can be backed up as well. Once the files are restored, then the unit can be flashed again with the factory standard firmware. More info can be found here:
Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution for the Nuvi owner as it requires a custom piece of firmware to flash the unit to make it at least boot. This problem is often caused during a failed firmware and/or map update.
It sounds like a file was corrupted. Sometimes it is better to connect the unit
up to a PC, delete the old map and then proceed to install the new one. There
are so many issues with memory space causing failed downloads and corrupted
If the map file is missing, the unit will boot-up OK, it will just
say "Map data unavailable" but if the map file or associated map files are
corrupted, it can cause the unit to crash. Your PC won't recognize the Nuvi
because you have the reach the main screen before the data communication mode
routines are accessed.
We've had some success in restoring some of these
units by flashing a "fix" firmware in "pre-boot mode" that doesn't try to load
the map or map associated files. This should then allow the unit to boot. Once
the unit boots, Windows will recognize it and then you can copy a map over to it
from the PC. Reboot the unit and then flash it with the standard
1. Turn the device OFF. 2. Place your fingertip or the eraser end of a pencil in the top right corner of the touchscreen. 3. Apply pressure in the top right corner of the screen. 4. While pressing down on the screen, power ON the unit and continue pressing on the screen. A message displays
to confirm if you really want to delete all user data? 5. Touch Yes. 6. The unit will now restart. 7. Follow the onscreen prompts to set up the nuvi.
Try this: Hold the power buuton down, you will see on the lower screen the word "Pre Booting - ". Keep holding the power button for about 60 second, then you will see on the lower screen "Booting". This time, release power button; system will reboot and loading map... again. I got the same problem, after research on the web. Nick 99990_0 had post this solution on (his Nuvi 660) but it work for my Nuvi 350 too. Good luck.
