Dot in every picture

I can think of two obvious possibilities. There may be more. First, I would try very carefully try cleaning the sensor. If you do not know what you are doing, take it to a camera repairman who does because you could damage it. Another possibility is that there are dead pixels on your sensor. I hope that is not the case because you will need to have the sensor replaced.

Sounds to me like the aperture diaphragm on the lens is stuck in a small opening position. If you detach the lens from the camera and look through it, is the whole opening light or just a small dot in the middle? The diaphragm can stick if it gets a drop of oil on it.

Dots on pictures when using flash on my ricoh caplio R4 camera

The dots usually appear when either the lens is not clean or when using high ISO speed. Check in your camera if you can reduce the ISO speed while taking pictures and also try cleaning the lens.

Picture come out with black dot inthe middle of the picture

If Alex's comment didn't resolve your problem, check for dust inside the camera body and on the part of the lens that goes into the camera body. The highlight indicator he speaks of will show on the LCD screen, but should not show up on your final picture once downloaded from the camera. Since the optics on that end of the lens are smaller, they are more susceptible to dust and dirt. If there is dirt or dust inside the camera body and you are not familiar with how to clean it, same yourself some headaches and take it to a qualified camera shop. You can seriously damage the interior optics of your camera by attempting to clean it the wrong way.

Picture won't take on auto

snoopytwo, jmv23 & guests,
Sounds like you have been taking photos in both auto & manual modes, make sure your f-stop is set at the range it needs to be to allow enough light for the camera to take the photo. Since the lens and the camera communicate, if the lens is closed down & not allowing enough light the camera will not take the photo - does that make sense - Look at the metering in auto mode and see what the camera says the conditions are for a specific lighting condition check to see if the lens has a aperture position for Auto, usually a dot on the lens ring to align with a setting in red or green (likely a F-22) depending on the make of lens, that has been moved to some place in the middle and not returned while trying other manual settings so the shutter won't release because the camera is told by the lens there is not enough light or slow enough shutter to take this picture.

Black dot appears on screen and on picture

You can open the camera, be very careful to discharge or avoid the flash, IT HURTS!. From there, you can access the LCD assembly, if you take that off, you should be able to access the back of the lens. On the lens is a CCD assembly that is fastened down usually by star screws. The dot might be on the CCD, you can try cleaning that, or else if you remove the CCD that gives you access to the back part of the lens.
Good luck!
