Question about Kenmore 24 in. 15079 Built-in Dishwasher
Most likely going to be somehting that has gotten through your chopper (soft food disposer), and could be stuck inside the impeller of your sump, or have broken off a portion of the impeller.
The first thing you want to do is, remove the sprayer arm.
Then take out the 5 torx head screws where the soil seperator is and remove the whole soil seperator. This is going to be a larger piece that has about a 6 in diameter.
Now you are going to see a grate. this will have another torx head screw, remove it, and remove the grate. There is nothing else holding it down but the screw.
The next piece to take off is the plastic "cap" that houses the chopper. To remove this, on the right side, slide a narrow flat head into the slot (second from the right) and lift up. This should release the locking tab.
Now you should see the chopper, clean out this area. It might have lots of food debris on the screen.
After you clean this out, put it back together and re-test.
If you still hear the grinding noise, it's going to be your somthing in your sump and motor. To replace this, it it best to phone a technician, as this can be very time consuming and challenging if you've never done it before.

Tips for a great answer:
Hi Kenneth Cho - I will suggest verifying that there is enough water pressure coming into the unit. Is the unit making a grinding noise? If it is, then the dishwasher seems to have a defective drain motor. When was the last time the filter was cleaned? Do you noticed if the spray arm will rotate freely or if it is damaged? If so, you might have to remove and replace the spray arm assemblies. If any proves to be ineffective, it could possibly have a communication problem coming from the main control board, I would suggest contacting a professional technician to diagnose the unit accurately.
