There is probably something stuck in or near the vent that is acting like a reed in a clarinet and playing you a note. Clean out the vent.

Hi! My Dyson DC17 starts fine and then, within a second, gets very loud with an extra sucking noise.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson vacuums, DC17 includes a suction relief valve. This allows extra airflow into the vacuum to protect the motor if the machine is used when blocked. If you've already washed the pre-motor filter and checked all the ducts for blockages, it's possible there's an issue with your machine's cyclone pack which has caused it to block.

We'd appreciate the opportunity to help you check for this - please do not continue to use your machine in the meantime as this may cause damage. When you have your DC17 easily to hand, please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Loud noise when running

It may be a broken fan. You will have to disassemble it to find out.

Hi My bissell proheat 2x 9500 is making a loud noise when the brushes are moving. I replace both belts and cleaned the brushes. Can you think of anything else it could be.

Hello there,
Try using other brush attachments, as broken bearings in a brush attachment will cause noise. If these troubleshooting techniques do not work, you may need to service the engine.
Remove the filter and bag of the machine and make sure that they are not clogged or full of debris. Clean any filters according to the instructions for your model or replace the bag. Excessive debris will make the engine run noisily.
Inspect the hose of the vacuum and remove any large debris that may be clogging the inside of the tube. Large amounts of dust, as well as stones or other hard materials that bounce, may cause a loud noise in the engine.
Remove the housing that conceals the engine of your machine and inspect the fan for damage or clogging. Remove any dirt or debris that may hinder the movement of the fan. Inspect the fan for any damage such as bent or excessively sharp blades. Replace the fan blades as needed; contact your vacuum manufacturer if the fan is damaged. The replacement part will include instructions.
Tighten the fan with a ratchet if it is loose on the assembly. A loose fan will make a rattling sound as the motor revs.
Wipe dirt and dust from the frame of the engine. Large quantities of dirt or dust around the motor can cause it to overheat, which can cause vibration and loud noise.
Look for corrosion around the engine. If the engine is corroded, it must be replaced.
Grease the bearings of the engine if you hear a grinding noise from the vacuum. Greasing is often performed through ports in the engine, or by removing the bearings. However, the actual greasing method is model-specific. Consult your owner's manual or send the vacuum to a service professional for this service.
Inspect the inside of the vacuum cleaner for other worn parts or broken pieces. Worn or broken pieces can cause loud noises to occur. Remove the broken part and order new materials from the vacuum manufacturer or take the machine in for service.
Hope this information was helpful to you. All the best. Elect_Comp

Vacuums typically make a loud noise when running. Can you describe the noise or why you think it is unusual?

Kenmore upright vac model 33922 - good suction but developed loud whining noise after accidentally vacuuming room without bag. Added bag and changed both filters. Still makes noise. How can I stop noise?

The bag is the first stage in your filtration. Most times what you did will draw fine dust right through the filters and into the motor itself, affecting the bearings and clogging the motor fans, throwing them off balance.
The fact that there is a new noise would seem to indicate bearing problems which will only worsen unless the vac motor is dismantled, fans cleaned and bearings either replaced or cleaned and repacked.

Envirovac kicks debris back at my feet and is loud

It's clogged!
Many so-called "environmentally friendly" vacuum cleaners have multiple stage filters; the usual configuration is a standard filter followed by a HEPA filter or equivalent. Standard filters can be a paper bag or a bagless, removable container.
From time to time, the secondary filter will get clogged, so it doesn't matter whether you change the bag or empty the container, performance will not improve.
If you have access to compressed air, try removing the secondary filter and blowing it clean with a high pressure air nozzle. If that doesn't work, check the hose to make sure it's clear. If you are using a rug beater attachment, make sure it has not clogged at its inlet.

35922, sounds like there is a clog , have cleared hoses, put new bag in loss of suction, still hear loud clogged noise near rear vent hole

Try putting the vacuum hose end into vent hole while running. That may dislodge the clog. Otherwise, you will need to disassemble the machine far enough to get to the clog area.

My Kirby G3 makes a loud, high pitch whistle with the hose

I would say you either have something stuck on the impeller or there is a piece of paper or something stuck inside the hose. its not clogging the hose but when the air passes by it. It is making that noise. If you find nothing you may need a repair. May have a bad bearing in the motor. Actually you can also try inspecting the brush on the head. It removes easily from vacuum and should spin freely and quietly.
