Re: sony kp-51sw500

Everybody here seems to have basically the same problem so I will write a general fix for these Samsungs. First what you got is known as Convergence failure, A Ic or resistor, fuse or some other component has failed in the convergence circuit. So finding the service menu and trying to align the colors or spinning magnets on the CRT’s or a real bad idea of tipping a CRT or mirror would be the equitant of ripping the transmission out of your car because it had a flat tire. When the convergence fails no adjustment will bring it back, and if you do one of these stupid things then you have two problems. Now most of these Samsungs have an easily replicable board that all the convergence amplifiers are on. This can be found by removing the back and seeing if there is a board about 9 X 5 inches big and mounted to the CRT mounts, there will be 5 connector to this board. Now if your set does not have this board and instead has the two convergence Ic’s (these are about the size of a playing card and have the numbers STK392-040 on them) mount down on a board below and to the right ( this is known as the deflection board) this repair will not work for you. Instead you will need to component level repair the convergence circuit. But if you do have this separate convergence board the repair is fairly straight forward. Go to or some other supplier and order BP95-00142E this is the convergence board. This board has been crossed several times through the years but this is the current version. Now once you get this board simply replace it making sure to get al the connector back in there original spot. The fire up the set and run Flash focus and for about 95% this will fix the set

Faint red curved lines on Sony KP 51ws500.Converged = no work???

Hi There!
This sounds like a typical problem related to a older CRT.
If you remove the front cover of the tv, you can then remove a wood panel. Behind this panel you will see a block (high voltage splitter) it will have 6 "knobs" on it, 3 will say focus, 3 will say screen.
They will also be labeled R - G - B
Put the tv on a blank input so you can see the lines clearly on a black screen  - Find the knob for red, and SLIGHTLY turn it down until the red lines disappear.

Sony KP-46WT500 Red, green and blue lines appearing on screen

your convergence IC;s are out, they cost about $40, if you know how to solder, you can do it your self, if not , I would try to find somone that can, service centers charge about 4 or 5 hundred, after you get the new ones, there easy to find on the board in the back of the tv

KP-51HW40 Sony 51" Fades to blue screen

The service manual on page 8 shows how to adjust the Red/Blue/Green screen voltages. To get to the adjustment board, take the front speaker grill off (two screws at the bottom left and right) and set it aside. No need to disconnect any wires. Then remove the plywood board with 4 screws that exposes the screen/focus adjustments. The top 3 adjustments are for focus, and you need not mess with these. The bottom 3 adjustments are for Red/Blue/Green screen voltage rough adjustments. My screen showed red lines, so I had to turn the bottom right adjustment with a philips head screwdriver just slightly until the red gun retrace lines where no longer visible.

Curved blue lines on screen.

You have a completely different problem. The screen voltage for the blue picture tube is slightly too high on your set. This will put fine lines in the background of the picture, called retrace lines. This is very common and easy to correct. Remove the front speaker cover and the access panel behind it. Look inside and you will see a black box with six controls, each control having a little white glue on it. This is the Focus/Screen block. Three controls are labeled Focus and three are labeled Screen. The screen control in the center is for green but I am not sure if the screen control on the left or right is for blue for your model. With the TV on, set it to VIDEO 1 but do not connect anything to the VIDEO 1 jacks. This will produce a pure dark picture, showing any faint lines in the background. Choose one of the screen controls and increase (turn clockwise) it slightly. If the blue lines do not get brighter it means you are turning the red screen control, so put it back where it was and choose the other screen control. When you find the blue screen control, decrease (turn counter-clockwise) it until just when the blue lines are gone. If you want you can check that the red and green screen controls are set to just below the point where their faint lines are visible. When done, replace the panels and your picture will be back to perfect.

Sony kp-65wv700

I followed GuestUser/ Slinteriors advice and I fixed it. Open the front of the TV and there are 6 little nobs in the front. The botton 3 are what you need to adjust. from left to right the color controls are BLUE, RED GREEN. For the blue lines, slightly (I really mean very slightly) turn the botton left nob clockwise (right).

Sounds like a conergence circuit failure, probably a couple of AMPs and a few discreet components. Probably 250-300 repair
