Question about Audio Players & Recorders
Little more info needed.
1st Your RCA is the surround processor. (it provides your surround from Movies we would assume.) Your Sony looks as if your connectiions are video (yellow) and red and white for audio.
3rd Looks like a cable box.
Here's a solution, attach the video and audio from your cable box to the VCR aux input watch the Tv as you would for movies and set your vcr to aux input this would allow the audio to be processed from the RCA.
More details would have helped.

Well, since the "regularTV" has no make or model number I will have to guess what outputs it has to suit your surround sound system which also has no make or model number! Using outputs that show left and right speaker channels wire each to the left and right speaker channels of the surround sound amplifier. How many, I don't know!

In the display window, do you see the letters ASC? If so,press the ASC button on the remote to turn it off. You should now have the TV sound thru the rear speakers. Enjoy...

The coby dvd 988 has 2 rca audio input jacks, you need to have these connected to your TV AUDIO OUT jacks, these are usually colored red and white like right and left stereo jacks, be sure to set up the TV for AUDIO output through these connections, some tv`s require that the internal built in speakers are cancelled and the audio output jacks are enabled. Set the coby input signal to receive the port you pluged the tv signal into.
