Microsoft has discontinued putting new support on line for the Xp O/S, but if you use the windows upgrade it will still check your system for the needed upgrades from Microsoft. If you go to Start, you should see the Windows update button. If not it should be in accessories. It will connect you to Microsoft and will preform a test to check your system for needed updates. Don't worry it does not take any personel info from your system. It will then give you a list of needed files and you can decide which to install or not to install. Good luck and if you have any problems don't hesitate to ask. Have a good day.

When I try to install MT 882 modem for USB connection I always get reboot instruction the modem never get installed why my operating system is Windows XP professional

Does the product box/or disc say that it is compatible with your XP op system? If it does,

Please try a 'clean' install.

Please check your list of programs in the control panel (install/uninstall) and if anything has installed, please uninstall it.

Turn off all running programs, including the internet and your virus control.

Reinstall the software.

After the installation is complete, restart your computer and be sure your virus control has restarted.

If this does not work/or the software you received with the modem does not list Windows XP, please go to this site
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/productFamily.do?method=index&directoryId=2183&treeId=183

Choose which of the two 882 modems you have and click on it to take you to a page that will list the specific downloads available for this modem.

You may find a driver for Windows XP there is you do not have the compatible software.

If so, download it and save it to your desktop, and do a clean install by following the above procedures and clicking on the new driver.

Good luck to you and please rate this solution. Thank You.

Hi. My friend just gave me this comp Presario 6370us DA219A with no harddrive, no original CD so now I'm having problem with audio, no sound/driver and may be other drivers as well. I put in a new WD...

From HP Support,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=213905&

On the above page, select the Operating System you installed on that new Western Digital harddrive.

(Left-click on the blue down arrow to the right of the - Select your operating system: box. Then Left-click on the Operating System you installed)

For example I will use Windows XP. (Home Edition or Pro, doesn't matter),

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=213905

As you can see drivers are only available for two different Operating Systems,

1) Windows 2000
2) Windows XP

Questions?
Please post in a Comment.

I switched the operationg system of my et 1161-03 from vista to xp now the modem dosn't work. I need a driver for the modem .

Hello there:
when you install a different operatin system expecially from vista to a nother one you might have to reload the drivers for the modem cause they will be removed if they have not been saved before the new operating system is installed . also you can go to device manager and do a scan for hardware change and see if it will recognize it there ok?
best regards michael

Yes it is best to format the PC and reload the OS again although I would suggest that you load the latest version of the WinXP family as single boot OS and work. It should give lesser problems with a single genuine anti-virus installed.......sodeep

Bad dell hard drive

Hi there,
as long as you have the windows COA code on the back of the computer (certificate of Authenticity) you can just find a good copy of XP Pro, and install it on your machine. When done, you can run the resorce CD and install the drivers.

If you do not have the Operating System disk, you have to find another disk, or contact Dell to get a new one sent to you.

The key is that you have the code on the back of the computer (or top, or side, or wherever.)

Good luck!

In addition to installing the operating system (Windows XP) you will need to install the drivers for the system.  If you system is a Dell Dimension 1100 you can get the drivers from this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_CEL_1100&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Driver installation order is:
Desktop system software (R121089.exe) Intel Chipset Utility (R96614.exe) Intel Video Driver (R104515.exe) Audio Driver (R105155.exe) Network Driver (R105786.exe) Modem Driver (R133743.exe or R73044.exe)
Once you have all the drivers installed, then you can install your applications and configure your internet connection.
