Question about Ace Hardware InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

1 Answer

Badger 5 not grinding up waste

We moved into a home that sat empty for 6 plus months and I noticed that while the disposal seems to be running the food is not being chopped up. I don't think it is correct but the blades seem to be stuck in place, with the motor on they spin but do not pivot. Any Ideas???

If the disposer has had a long idle time and those blades have gotten corroded enough, they could be stuck. You could try giving them a few squirts of WD-40 and allowing it to penetrate a while. Then grab the blades with a pliers and see if a twist loosens them. For this model the blade assembly is not available as a repair part, so you may end up having to replace the disposer.

My garbage disposal only hums when turned on>>>>>

There could be 2 things that I can think of wrong with it...first, something is stuck in it keeping it from turning...or second the grinders have rusted off and nothing is grinding the waste up.

In sinkerator will only "hum" and not run to grind food

On The bottom of the unit there should be a place to put an allen wrench. Unplug unit, Insert wrench and turn the wrench back and forth this moves the blades if the blades move freely then nothing is stuck. If wrench does not move freely, with flash light inspect inside of disposal (the rubber flaps are usually removable to gain better eye site) if objects (bones, utensil, etc) are noticed remove them and try the wrench again if now freed problem solved. If wrench turned freely from the beginning and motor still hums. Replace disposal.

I have a badger 5 plus garbage disposal (5-6 years) it humms

Yes, it sounds like you have a bad motor winding, not allowing the motor to actually work. It is time to replace. Hope this helps

In sink erator leaking at bottom by electrical connection

I don't think it can be fixed by anyone other than the factory. I wanted to find a parts list so I could buy a seal that goes above the motor housing (which is where i think the problem really is) and repair it myself. I wish I had better news but since the leak is small and the motor still works, I'm going to keep a bucket beneath it and periodically empty it as recommended by a previous contributor.

Insinkerator Disposal Badger 5 Plus 5 Leaking From Top

I believe that schroud is a noise insulator, it is installed aroung the grinding chamber to minimize the grinding noise, the part below that is the motor.

Now for the leak, if it were me I would remove the disposer from the sink, really not a big deal and see if I could remove the sound insulator, I would presume then taht you would see signs of where the leak is eminating from.

Seeing that the disposer doesnt leak when it 's not running I think it can be repaired at home using a two part epoxy patching material used for marine pourposes.

It's worth a try, the worst thing that can happen is that you are out a little of your time.

IN SINK Erator/ Badger Not Grinding waste

if the InsinkErator is least than 2 years old, you should call the service.
there is 2 year In-Home Parts and Labor Warranty by InSinkErator.
if not you have to disaemble the unit and see what is keeping the blade from turning.

let me know if that is what you need.
