Question about Tascam US-122MKII-USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface US-122MKII
I am feeding a SEX1 condenser microphone into a Tascam US-122MKII audio interface, via an XLR lead. I am then feeding this into a new Mac Book Pro via a USB2 lead. I can select the microphone into my lap top via System Preferences / Sound. I can select the Tascam interface and can see it is taking sound from the microphone. However I am unable to select audio from the Tascam audio interface in Quicktime or Final Cut Pro in order to record voice over. When I try to select the Tascam audio interface box, to record voice in Final Cut Pro I get the following error message. 'The selected sound input device is unavailable. It may be in use by another application, disconnected or improperly connected, or may be conflicting with a video output device' I have no other devices connected to my Mac Book Pro. I am running OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion). Any help appreciated.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

First try turning off the onboard audio device using the BIOS interface. Try pressing f4, f2 or delete key rapidly at the flash screen beginning when you first turn on the computer. Look around in the bios (usually in "integrated periperals" area) and disable any onboard audio options that you see.
-In windows XP you can go to Control panel - Sound Devices and change the "map through" feature, select your default device, and run a hardware test simulation with a microphone for each device. Nice setup btw.

You are correct, there is no "voice generator" within the Tascam US-144. It can simply transmit the very primitive note-on note-off type data to a Sound Module or keyboard (like a Roldan SoundCanvas), and then that would generate the actual waveforms.
A SoundCanvas would suit your needs well, as you could run the midi out to this voice generator, and then run the stereo output of that back through the Tascam and into the computer for recording.

I had the same problem. After trying to turn it on many many times over weeks, I gave up. A few months later I tried it again, and same "Device Error" only. Then I decided to just mess around with it. So I held the power button on with my thumbnail while I pushed all the other buttons. I held in the MENU button for at least five seconds. Held in the ENTER button at least 5 seconds.... multiple buttons. These didn't seem to work, I don't think. but then decided to turn on the power button using the edge of my desk while several fingers pushed multiple other buttons.
To my great shock, all of a sudden, the bloody thing turned on like it's supposed to, logged into a Sugar Ray song I was learning awhile back, apparently. Go figure. After that, it turned on correctly twice so far.
So, heheh, I have no idea what the cure was. Just screw around with holding in multiple buttons while the power is on, I guess.

Have you clicked the little "monitor" icon (looks like a speaker) on the armed audio track so that it goes orange? Once on, you should see a signal on the VU meter (assuming the line in has a good signal etc). Once recorded, turn the monitor off again to listen to the track with all the others.
