I purchased this and originally thought it was due to a faulty memory card I purchased off ebay.. Recently replaced the card with a new "lagit" card and am having the same problems. Basically after taking a pic i go to review and all I see a blue screen with "file error" written accross it. Once in awhile I actully see a picture in my review screen but when I got to download on my computer the picture is distorted. Is this something that can be fixed or is the camera junk... Thanks for your help!!!

The best solution I have known for recovering lost files due to formatted discs or cards has been Sandisk's software called RescuePro. It is well known to recover files that have been formatted once, twice, or more. To me, it's worth the 40 bucks versus never getting that moment back. Here's the link: http://www.sandisk.com/products/software-and-services/data-recovery
Get a card reader and use it to download to a folder you create on your desktop. If that doesn't get you all of your pics, take the card to a Walmart store and use their picture kiosk machines to print the pics or even make a CD of them. Once the pics are safe, you can format the card in the camera to get it erased and back to original condition.
Your pictures are corrupted. You can recover pictures from memory card with this 1. Do not save any new photos into the memory card of your camera. 2. Insert the memory card into a card reader. Connect it with computer. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer. 3. Download recovery software, recommended one is Tenorshare Data Recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked) http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoverystandard.htm 4. Install and open the program, select your memory drive, and click 'Start' button to start scanning process which will find your currupted pictures.
I would try reformatting the memory card and see if that gets rid of the file error message. In the manual for your camera it says that message means that the camera is having a conflict when playing back images processed by a computer or another camera.
I had the same problem. First, I changed my Memory-Stick, because after taking about 60 pictures the famous file error appeared. Secondly, if the camera shows the famous "file error" this can be resolved - at least in my case - by taking out the battery for at least 4 hours. So, if your camera is not in use, always take out the memory-stick and the battery and the problem does not appear. This helped in my case. However, this is in my opinion anything but satisfying. I had a Nikon Coolpix nd never experienced any problems like the "file error" of the sony digicams.
It might be time for a new memory card.
A last effort you can try is to remove the memory card and insert it into a memory card reader connected to a PC. There are diagnostics and utilities that can be performed on your memory card since it will be treated by your PC as a removable storage. You can format the memory card, run diagnostics like Norton Disc Doctor or similar.
If in any test an error shows, then you have just confirmed that is due for replacement. If after formating, scanning and checking it shows good, then you can try using it again.
You can also try cleaning the little gold tips at the end of one side of the memory.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need further information.
Good luck and kind regards.
I was having the same problem with my 4GB memory stick pro duo, when i took more than 50 pictures with my camera (dsc-w90) i would get the blue screen with the file error message. I'm guessing you bought the memory stick on ebay right? I bought mines there and it turns out it's a fake one. If you also bought it there then you most likely have a fake memory stick because I found out that most of the memory sticks sold on ebay are fake, to help you figure out if you have a fake one or not check out this guide or google fake memory stick pro duo.
