Nikon coolpix l1 not working with the memory card

Hi, just got this camera out of the box, and it works fine without a memory card. but when i put one in, and try to take a photo, the camera makes a bleeping noise and does nothing else. the memory card isn't locked, and none of the buttons work with the card in. the camera then goes onto standby, but the shutter release button doesn't work so i can't turn it off. Ive tried new batteries. Please help!

I suspect that memory card is not compatable with the camera... if you have the manual check it to see... if you don't have the manual i'll find it for you

My Nikon Coolpix L1110 whenever i turn it on with memory card the camera message THIS CARD CANNOT BE USED.. but without the memory it is find and ok.... I put the memory on my laptop and it is working all...

Don't be so quick blaming your camera for everything. :)
Maybe that message means the memory card is either full or nearly full.

When did it start saying that? Did you try another memory card in the camera?

Nikkon coolpix L1 After downloading memory card .. then putting back into camera. Reading says "cannot read memory card." Checked card out at store verified that it is good. Why does it not work in my...

A couple things you might try.. remove the card carefully and check the position of the "lock" tab. Make sure it is fully in the unlocked position - not locked or a point between the two positions. Reinsert and try again.

It sounds lie you're using a card reader to download the pictures - try formatting the card while in the card reader via computer. The card should be completely empty when the format is complete. You can even try copying files to and from the card to make sure its ok and format again. When complete, try again in camera.

If the problem persists, check to make sure the card is on Nikon approved memory card list for use with the Coolpix L1 (provided below):

The following is a list of approved memory cards for the Coolpix L1 digital still camera. These cards have been tested and approved for use with the Coolpix L1.
The L1 uses SD (Secure Digital) memory. Sandisk:
  • 64MB, 128 MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
Toshiba:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 128 MB*, 256MB*, 512MB
Panasonic:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
* - Cards rated for 10MB/s (high speed) Other cards have not been tested. For more details on the memory cards listed above, please contact the manufacturer.

The list came direct from Nikon Support. Other cards may work, but only those on the list are approved. Successful use of other cards can not be guaranteed.

I hope this helps!

Camera works with standard SD memory card, but not SDHC

There are hardware incompatibilities between SD and SDHC cards. They're upward compatible in that SDHC devices will accept SD cards but not the other way around. You will have to hunt down SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Nikon Camera does not accept any memory card

Try formatting the card in the camera, not the computer.

SDHC memory card

The L1 is an old camera, before the SDHC standard. There is no forward compatibility (SD devices can't use SDHC cards), only backward (SDHC devices can use SD cards).

The latest version of the firmware is available at http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13783

That still won't let you use SDHC cards.

Sandisk memory card for nikon digital camera 6megapixals

It's Nikon's file system.
You must use cord/charger/station to access memory card.
Without it, your computer doesn't recognize it and ask you to format the card.

I've heard the camera "STALLS" when any sd card larger than 256 is installed, how big is your card?

No memory card will work in my Coolpix camera

Nikon has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 3200:

SD memory cards:
SanDisk 16/32/64/128/256MB
Panasonic 16/32/64/128/256/512
Toshiba 16/32/64/128/256MB

Other brands and capacities of cards may work, but Nikon cannot guarantee their operation. Check with the manufacturer of the third-party card for compatibility information. Nikon recommends keeping one of the approved cards available for troubleshooting.

Multi Media cards (MMC) are not recommended and should not be used.
