Have a longines watch circa 970 but need new links for the strap longines cannot help me ,so now what

If you haven't already tried it, I suggest replace the entire strap.

Most watches have standard sized lugs, so it should be possible find another one that you like and also fits your watch.

How do you open the back of an antique Elgin pocket watch

You might be able to pop it open with a pocket knife ... don't stab yourself though.

My Garmin 101 won't turn on, even with new batteries. Any ideas?

You said your watch was a "101", I assume that is a Forerunner 101.

The instruction say "press and hold the power button until the welcome page is displayed".

Perhaps you are not holding on to the power button for long enough?

Incidentally, if you do not have a copy of the instruction manual, you can obtain a copy from their web site "garmin.com". "Select support" and "manuals", fill in all three boxes and select your manual from the list given.
