OK let's see if this helps;
First check this this:
-check to see if you are connected to your router. START -> Control Panel -> left menu 'Switch to Classic View' -> Network Connections. make sure the adapter (Wireless or LAN) isn't greyed out or has an X on it, If it is greyed out right click it and select 'Enable'. If there is an X on the icon, then check your cables or wireless connection.
If you can connect to your router, but can't access the internet try this:
- Log into your router
- Check to see if your router has an IP address.
- If it shows an IP address; you might need to register the Router's MAC address with your ISP, contact your ISP.
- If there is no IP address; check to see if the connection type is set to automatic and change it if needed and re-boot your router.
If that doesn't work please supply more info on your OS, Internet connection type (ADSL, Cable or whatever), system configuration.

- I'm just going to clarify this point a little.
- If there is no IP address; check to see if the connection type is set
to automatic and change it if needed and re-boot your router.
The connection type you are looking for is the internet connection type and in most cases should be set to Automatic - DHCP.
