Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV318 Camcorder
My camcorder will play back previously recorded videos just fine, but when I try to record a new video, the screen is black. However, it will pick up sound, just no picture. Could something possibly be broken inside? I have never dropped it or anything, but it did sit for about 2 or 3 years without any use.
It is known problem of bad ccd imager in camcorder and requires replacement of that part.
Sony will repair CCD-TRV318 Free of Cost in ccd imager problem.
Please click Sony CCD Imager Support for details.

Try using different tape or a new tape in the Camcorder.
Clean the video heads using the Sony V8-25CLD cleaning cassette.
You may also try pressing and holding the Reset button for 30 seconds to reset all the settings in the unit to the factory defaults.
Good luck!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
