Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

1 Answer

Dell Inspiron 1501 screen is blank

My daughter dropped the laptop and now she can turn it on but the screen does not come on. I hooked it up to a PC monitor and the laptop seems fine. Apart from replacing the display is there other steps to take before going this far.

Yeah look on the keyboard for something that looks like two monitors on the F-key row. It might even say LCD on it. Hold down the Fn key and push the F-key that has the pic.

You should have the other monitor hooked up because what you are changing is the display modes. To switch modes you hold down the Fn key and tap the F-key with the pic. Let me know if anything happens.

If, when it does start and you see normal screens your version of Windows is probably corrupt or you have some type of virus. I would recommend wiping your hard drive and reinstall Windows.

Have you hooked it up to an external monitor? If you can see windows booting up on the external monitor then u may have a bad lcd screen or inverter or video card? Still lots of questions to ask.

My daughter's Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop screen has gone almost blank. When I open the laptop I momentarily get to see the screen as it should be. I have tried the 'fn' & 'up arrow' keys without success....

this sounds like a loose conection to the lcd inverter or the lcd cable to the motherboard. it can be repaired. how are you at taking things apart?

Try changing the memory stick, if still doesnt work, it means the invertor of the screen is gone.

Dell Laptop E1705 Screen goes Blank

If your video output works fine when connected to an external monitor, then the issue is with the LCD display panel. I’m afraid the only way to fix this is have the LCD panel replaced. The ribbon cable that plugs the LCD panel into the motherboard could also be the culprit. Here's a link to the display assembly for 1501: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1501/en/sm_en/display.htm#wp1022270
