How to power down
Different models have their power buttons located in different places. The More Recent vintage iMacs have them on the back of the screen in the Lower Left (as viewed from the front)
Mac Mini's depending on vintage, also on back but could be on the left or right corners.
Mac Pro's right on the front about midway down.
Laptops tend to be on top of the keyboard portion of the shell back Right hand corner (really vintage models, some were on the back)

The power button is on the back of the LCD screen in the lower left hand corner. You should power down by clicking on the Apple Logo in the upper left hand front corner and choose "Shut Down". If your screen freezes, you can power off by pushing the power button and holding it.
