Flame won't start, blower does

I haven't used this heater in a few years. It still has kerosene in it. So, I went out to restart it and the blower comes on as planned, but the flame won't start, so it is not heating. Any suggestions?

The fuel nozzle creates a vacuum across the orifice to **** fuel from the tank. It is clogged as you did not use for long time you need to clean the nozzle .

My heater will start, but the flames "surges" and eventually flames out. I haven't run it for 3+ years and left kerosene in the tank.

What is a cad cell and what does it do

A cad cell is a photo-electric device that reads the UV rays given off by flame after it has ignited. If it does not 'see' the flame, due to a flame failure OR a cad cell failure, the control circuit is locked out.
Make sure there is no carbon on the front (window)of the cell and make sure its adjustment is in perfect alignment to the flame.

Turn on wont ignite if does smokes take top coveroff works fine

Must be starving for air then, check and make sure it is clean and unobstructed and air can get in around the finns to the flame. Is the blower fan running? I assume so if it lights.

Kerosene garage heater (Desco) fan starts, burst of kerosene, and the heating element is red. Within a few seconds, heater stops abruptly. Email address: p.s.stohr@sbcglobal.net Thanks for your help.

Remove the top from the heater and clean the flame sensor. It should be the photo eye type. Remove it from it hold and clean inside with soft cloth or cotton swab with alcohol. If this doesn't help, let me know what you find. nitensheaterservice@earthlink.net

Hello and thanks in advance for any replies! :) We have not used our Laser 73 for close to 5 years. Tank was empty so we had it filled and new filter installed at the tank. I cleaned the screen at the sump...

That heat tube is the ignitor it gets real hot for a minuet then the kerosene starts pumping in and it flames up from the hot tube. I would expect that kerosene is not going in to the burn pot. the kerosene valve control will make a ticking pumping sound about 1 minuet after the vent fans start. within seconds a flame should appear. If you remove the screen and open your line or tank valve kerosene should flow out of it. hopefully you installed a line valve just before the going in to the heater. I loved my laser 73 about 10 years old. but kerosene at 3.50 a gallon for the clear stuff made me install a ground source system. I keep it as a back up running it once a month for 1/2 hour. dave

I have a master 150000 btu kerosene direct fire heater that runs for 5 minutes then shuts down and blows white smoke. what is the problem?

The white smoke is the kerosene fuel hitting the hot combustion chamber. Your flame has went out. The cause for this could be many. The first thing you need to do is check your fuel. Remove your fuel cap and look at the bottom of the tank for trash or water. Use a good flash light. It will all settle to the bottom. If so, drain and clean out your tank. Add fresh kerosene. Check your fuel filter. Replace if dirty. Test again. If problem continues, It is possible that your photo eye could be deffective or just dirty. It is located next to the ignitor or spark plug. It sees the flame. If the flame goes out, the unit shuts down. The flame has to be smooth (not sputtering). Water in the fuel will make it sputter and the unit will shut down. When the water/moisture in tank settles to the bottom, your suction fuel line is just off the bottom which results in it picking up the water instead of good fuel. Always disgard the old fuel from previous year and start with fresh fuel. This will cut down alot of your problems in the future.

Heater runs hot for a few minutes then stops heating

I would say from what you have described your problem is a bad thermostat heat sensor (you may have to replace the whole thermostat on this model!) This is a very common problem for this unit!

most parts for kero heaters are interchangable. go to desatech dot com for parts. check for a reset button for your heater. if no reset, does the fan run? your unit can use one of two ignition parts. a spark generator with a spark plug or a hot surface igniter. the unit uses a cad cell flame detector. you might need to replace this.
