How do I solve a problem with starting up windows in my hp pavilion g6? Whenever I start windows a blue screen appears and the computer restarts.

Sounds like your hard drive has either failed, come disconnected, or someone performed a full format of the drive which wiped out the partitions or the boot sector of the drive. Worst case you will need to replace drive and purchase reinstall disk from hp. Best case you will only need to purchase reinstall disk from hp. If you do need a new drive, I recommend purchasing it from hp directly, as it will already be prepared with hps proprietary boot configuration files which must be present for hardware to be recognized by system bios.

What do I do if the message "Operating system not found" appears when my computer starts, and why won't Windows start? ? Make sure the computer does not have a "non-bootable" floppy disk in the floppy disk drive (if applicable). ? If a non-bootable floppy disk is in the drive: 1. Remove the floppy disk. 2. Restart the computer and confirm that the Microsoft® Windows® operating system starts properly. ? If Windows still does not start, follow these steps to initialize the BIOS: 1. If there is a disk in the floppy disk drive, then remove it. 2. Turn off the computer. 3. Remove any peripheral devices connected to the computer. 4. Restart the computer. Page 1475. Press F2 when the VAIO logo appears. The BIOS Setup window appears. 6. Press the Right Arrow key to select the Exit menu. 7. Press the Down Arrow key to select Get Default Values. Computer keeps rebooting at login page. It starts up by saying it has 3 of 3 updates and don't turn off the computer and it then goes to the login page for a split second before it reboots, How do I fix...

Hi, this is a common problem with a vista update, dont know why it does it, just does! When it tries to restart keep pressing the 'F8' button and you should get advanced boot options menu where you can get windows to try and repair itself to an earlier restore point, if the problem persists then I'm afraid you'll be looking at restoring back to original factory settings. Below is an extract from the Dell manual found at
http://book-lab.ru/pdf/DELL-INSPIRON/service_manual_for_DELL_Inspiron_1525.pdf

Restoring the Computer to the Default Factory Configuration
The Dell Factory Image Restore option allows you to restore your hard drive
back to its original factory configuration as when you first ordered it from
Dell. This option appears on Dell computers that were originally pre-installed
with Windows Vista® and does not include computers purchased through
the Express Upgrade promotion or computers that were upgraded to
Windows Vista from another version of Windows.
NOTICE: When you restore the computer to the default factory configuration, all
data on the C drive is deleted. Before performing this procedure, back up personal
files. If you do not back up personal files, the data is lost.
1 Restart the computer. To do this, click Start → → Restart.
2 As the computer restarts, press <F8> until the Advanced Boot Options
menu appears on the screen.
NOTE: You must press the <F8> key before the Windows logo appears on the
screen. If you press <F8> after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the
Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see
the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this
step until you see the menu on the screen.
3 Press <Down Arrow> to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced
Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>.
4 Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
5 Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
6 Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
7 In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
8 Select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory
condition checkbox.
9 Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.
When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

Hope this helps!

Acer laptop Aspire 5535 DVD drive stopped working for no reason

It would seem the drive probably has a mechanical or electronic fault...

You did say it is a new computer. If it is there should be no real problem due to the usual warranty and the responsibility the retailer has for the products they sell. In addition if you paid by credit card you might discover it provides additional protection against faulty goods.

Optiarc DVD Drive does not work anymore.

Try uninstalling the device in the Device Manager, then restart the computer. See if Windows redetects the device and reinstall it. Next, try accessing the BIOS and see if the BIOS sees it, and be sure its enabled there. If both of these options fail, open the machine and make sure that the drive has a working power connector attached. If the connector is bad, switch the power lead over to a working connector.
