Try the following:
Depress and hold the heated dry button until the light goes out. This may take
more than the suggested 4 seconds (Sears suggestion).
This is an update to the dishwasher problem. Kenmore (actually Whirlpool) has a
safety switch at the control panel. If water temperature is not regulated
properly it locks the controls. In this situation, it really is a matter of
unregulated water temperature control. For the dishwasher this is supposed to be
internally set at 140 degrees F. It is likely that the thermostat (or the
heating element may also be faulty) is faulty. It may be helpful to purchase a
manual for the unit to see if they show you where the thermostat is located. To
test the thermostat, unhook it from the (dishwasher) unit, place it metal down
on a grill and turn on grill close to temp settings, and make continual checks
of the Ohm continuity. Once the thermostat has reached default settings it
should open (that is from nearly 0 Ohms to an infinity setting). If no changes
occur in the Ohm-meter reading when close to temperature factory settings the
thermostat is bad. Depending upon how new the unit is this is probably something
that can be found without having to move the unit. If you think you can discover
the thermostat without the manual, it is likely close to where the heating
element is connected and will be supported by a small bracket (single screw).
