Question about Road Mice 1989 Ford Mustang Foxbody RM-08FDMGSXK 2011 Mustang GT Wirel

No spark from the coil

I have a 1989 mustang gt when I try to start it, it will crank but won't fire. It has a MSD ignition box running to the coil, could this be a fuse? The coil is brand new but there is no spark from it. Please help!

Could you take a picture of the coil pack showing the wires to the coil! Is there an after market alarm/immobiliser fitted? ? If you can probe dc supply to conform, you'll need someone to crank the engine while you test for power supply. .. also comfom fuel pump is running as immobiliser *if* fitted cuts power to both...

    It doesnt have an aftermarket alarm/immobilizer the ignition switch went out so I changed that but with the old switch when it went bad I had to hold the key slightly forward to move the car but as soon as I let go of the key it dies now with the new switch at cranks but no spark could I have shorted something out?

    ok when you said the switch went bad, and explained movement of key! *thats just wear on key/barrel. ... im guessing this car is "your dream car" is it parked in your garage and you ( with no disrespect) clean/play around with it!! adjustments etc??? : ) ok its simple* you need to conform all fuses relays are ok 2nd block connector to coil pack pull back cable sleeve, you'll neefd a multi metter or even a 12volt bulb! anything you can probe to find power (if its there) most coils of this year power up on position two of ignition! ie dash lights no crank... (but may still time out so keep in mind) so what your looking for > is the coil getting power is the coil energizing! example .1 yes iv powrer at the coil pack ( voltage amplifier) but still no spark! possible faults =bad plug Leeds, bad plugs (all faulty very unlikely) but possibly anything is at this game... next resul>t you found no power at coil pack. possible faults I always start simple once again (fuses+relays) is the fuel pump running with ignition in position#2 is key chipped! is wiring ok, re-check block connector at coil! ! ..... (POWER @COIL) =FAULTY COIL, FAULTY LEADS, FAULTY PLUGS...... (*NO POWER AT COIL*)= BLOWN FUSE, FRIED RELAY, CHIPPED KEY *TRANSPONDER FAULT*, bad connection, bad earth to body may also result in fault.. was the key barrel moving around along with key wear!!?

1955 olds 88 hei ignition wiring to key and ignition system


Original system has a resistor wire between coil + and ignition key, to reduce voltage and thus increase amps to give fatter spark and increase fuel mileage. For HEI system, this resistor wire must not be used, so run new primary wire straight from switch "run" to coil +. There should already be a wire from the starter solenoid to the coil + to supply full 12 volts when cranking to give higher voltage spark to plugs to help jump the gap better for use while starting. You are describing a bad ignition switch. These fail in such a way that the voltage to the ignition fails while in the crank position.

You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Is the check engine light on ? Have you checked for trouble codes ?
It could be a relay, the ignition module, coil, fuel pump, or a list of other things.

Since you are getting good spark, I would guess first that your timing is too far off. Use a timing light to check the timing since the distributor was replaced. If your timing is too far advanced or retarded it wont fire up, but do exactly as you mention. Also, be sure your firing order is correct.

I have 1995 mustang gt and am installing a msd 6al ignition box and need to know wher the stock tach wire is so that i con hook to rev limiter on msd box.


a chiltons or hanyes repair book will tell u that it will run u 30 bucks at the most but it will be handy for any other problems that may come

So does he have spark at the distributor but not at the plugs? I'm not sure what you mean by fire coming in but not coming out. I build alot of these cars.
