Question about Buffalo Technology MiniStation Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Buffalo HD-PCU2 USB Flashes and tries to start up but then reboots. Works on other computers just not my own. Have restarted, unplugged, tried multiple USB Ports and unplugging from the wall, Device manager cannot detect and seems to get caught in a loop... Any suggestions? (drivers up to date.)

New Computer, Windows 7 I have also gone through Windows Task Manager and checked to see if there was anything frozen or tying up resources, or has anything to do with the USB Ports.

Check some other hard drive on the usb port of your pc, if it also not work then there must be the problem on the usb port of your system

SOURCE: My external hard drive is unreadable

Does you drive make any sounds like these? If yes you have a mechanical problem and you should get a specialist to work on it. If not - try to remove the drive from USB casing and connect it directly to your PC or put into another USB enclosure. This should help if the problem is with the enclosure itself and not with the drive.

SOURCE: Iomega 250 GB external stopped working

This is really not a solution, but you should all try to connect your iomega to a imac, and use the Disk Utility (in Utilities folder), if you have any luck the hard drive will be recognized and you will be able to format it

EXTERNAL HD DOES NOT RECOGNISE ON COMPUTER

w7 if your computer is running windows 7 you might need to do this

First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

Click "Start" button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar and press "Enter". Click "Continue" if necessary.

In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

for xp

click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X

you will need to update/reinstall drivers

right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb but its not working

ports(com&lpt)right click update driver

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

if you can see your usb drive but its not working

ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems to a computer and its parts

if this fails to fix the problem

you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap

hope this helps

I cannot eject my buffalo ministation HD-PCU2 and when I remove it safely, a message prompts and says "device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the device."...

Hi Welcome to FixYa!
I am having the same scenario too sometimes.. What i usually do if the drive is not in use, I turn off the computer first then unplug my external hdd. in that case, the computer is completely off as well as the drive. But if you feel like its a hassle of turning down the machine for you to remove the drive, you could try the following steps:
There is a setting for the USB drives which tells the OS how to optimize their usage. Either it is optimized for Quick Removal or for Performance. To check it, do the following:
-Right click on the USB drive icon in My Computer. -Select the Hardware tab. -Select your USB drive and click on Properties. -Now click on Policies tab.

mondimondz_4.gif

Optimize for Quick removal This setting disables write caching on the disk so that you can disconnect this drive without using theSafely Remove Hardware icon.
Optimize for Performance This setting enables the write caching on the disk so as to improve disk performance. To disconnect this drive, you should use the Safely Remove Hardware icon so as not to hurt your USB drive.
Hope this would help!

Buffalo HD-HC160U2 stops open Computer is start menu

Hi,

The orange light indicates the drive is getting power. So, that leaves a faulty circuit in the chassis of the drive enclosure or a failed circuit in the drive itself.

Take your drive to your local PC shop and have the technicians test it in a new enclosure. If it works buy the new enclosure and be on your way.

If not, get back to me with your location(Country, State and City), I will be happy to refer you to a professional near you with the right equipment to help you recover your files.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Apparently i need to reboot my BUFFALO & MINISTATION LITE HD-PE500U2/WH 500 GB, how do i do this?

Apparently -- if you don't know how to reboot -- you should perhaps ask some computer wizard among your friends for advice.

You don't reboot a hard drive (or any other device), you reboot THE COMPUTER. Which means you shut it down and restart it. During the startup process (which is synonymous to "booting") the computer checks all its internal interfaces and external sockets, takes an inventory of all devices and checks if they work properly.
